Would it be possible to make the 3vix video decoder aware of the aspect ratio stored in matroska files and play them back in their correct size just as it does with mp4 files? I guess that would mean that it should connect with matroska splitter somehow and receive that information...
Thanks

hm yes, good idea
all-in-all it would be great to get some sort of interoperability between the different anamorphic implementations in all the containers
afaik the following decoders support:
3ivx: mp4 and "mp4->avis"
ffdshow: matroska
nero: avi and mp4
xvid: syskin worked on an avi implementation but didnt finished it (so mkv also doesnt work), it cant be connected to mp4 at all
as koepi told me ogm doesnt have an anamorphic implementation atm

3ivx supports MPEG-4 PAR
If matroska wants to automagically work with MPEG-4 decoders then it needs to use MPEG-4 PAR as well.
IE, the PAR is coded in the Video Config Description

Matroska isn't really seeking to get the AR to work with specific decoders, it is just trying to get any decoded video resized properly. The current method uses ffdshow. If ffdshow always loads then it will read the AR and adjust it to the correct size whether the video came from MPEG-4, RV9, or WMV9.
Optimally there would be a completely seperate resize filter that would perform the same function. But as there isn't, we just do it this way.
