using scenarist and NTSC movies with subtitles fails during the layout. is there any way to get dvd2dvdr to work with NTSC dvds and subtitles?

probably not.

I think dvd2dvd doesn't have this problem

In my experience, DVD2DVD-R/CCE/Scenarist will work fine in NTSC land as long as you only keep one set of subtitles. Scenarist seems to get confused as soon as there is more than one set of subtitles.

Try another dvd....in my testing about 90% of the time subs worked with DVD2DVD. The few that didn't work work animation dvds like 'Castle in the Sky'. This is one of the main reasons I switched from DVD2DVD-R to DVD2DVD just for the subs. Not sure but try 2 subs max and see if that helps. But before you go mad you needn't waste much time. Test a chapter at a time and you can mount your blahblah.dvd with daemon-tools to give it a whirl.

the reason i was asking is b/c i abandoned using DVD2DVDR 'cause DVD2DVD works with subtitles like a charm but i found a few dvds where it didn't, so i decided to give DVD2DVDR another shot.

i'll try testing with single chapters and see how it works out - thanks for the tip :)

I wrote a small guide for DVD subtitles for use with DVD Maestro skipping the rip subs in dvd2dvd and doing it afterwards. I did this as a request for help from windtrader and I came up with a method that worked fine in my tests, actually I did 2 guides an long one using subrip and maestrosbt to create bitmaps, ditched that and went with subrip + subtitle workshop for text based after I stumbled across a way of fixing the timing. It may be total crap I dunno I'm a total newbie who never wanted subs, just did it to help someone else out. It worked for me, it worked for him, it's on my site.
