@LIGHTNING UK!,

Please allow me to ask about the future of DVD Decrypter ?

Which features are on your to do list anyway ?

To be honest for Ripping & Decrypting purpose,
DVD Decrypter has already done a GREAT job for me so far.

Thank you.

To be honest, I dont know!

There cant be much more I can do to it without making it more than it currently is. And by that, I mean a ripper/decrypter.

One thing I tried to do in DVD Decrypter that gave me a problem.

I have a DVD title that has multiple angles. It uses the angles to display different credits in different languages.

I tried to output the video stream of one angle only but it always output all angles in a single stream in sequence. So I ended up with a single video stream that contained all the angles in sequence.

The only way to output them seperately was to output by cells but then I had to look through all the different cells to find the correct language ones and glue them together using TMPEGEnc.

Maybe something to do for the next version.

How about having DVD Decrypter decrypt "on the fly" like AnyDVD? This would turn a number of two-click tools into true one-click tools. Nero Recode, DVD2One, and other DVD utilities that require unencrypted files would all benefit.

LIGHTNING UK!

Acidis,
IFO mode should have showed you the angles. If you're saying it didnt, please send me the IFO files from the disc in question so I may take a look at them.

Windtrader,
As I mentioned earlier, that would totally change what the program is about. You have to make a driver to do what AnyDVD does or hook into the OS and override what it does - like DVD Region Free.
So basically, neither of those are gonna happen.

I just did it in the latest version and it did work. I either did something wrong the first time or the older version had a bug.

Basically, what I needed was to make a single angle (language in this DVD's case) video and English sound track. Now I can add Cantonese sound tack and English subtitles to it. Synchronizing sound from tape is going to be a bitch...

Couple things still.

Currently to select an angle, I have to "Select None" in chapter view and then go through each chapter and "Select All" in cell view. Maybe add "Select/Unselect This Angle" option for the angle context menu and/or chapter/cell context menus.

If you go to stream processing, enable it and select some of the streams and select different from default processing type (say demux.) Then click on Input tab for whatever reason. It resets the stream processing selections to defaults specified in settings. Probably should not do it unless you exit program.

I'd like DVDDecryptor to be able to do this (perhaps it can already, I've not played much with the options.)

I want to rip a DVD that has 6 episodes on it, plus some bonus stuff. Ideally I'd be able to highlight all the program chains I want and rip them all in one go, and as if the program chains were one continious program on the dvd, instead of 9 (6 for the episodes, 3 for the bonus stuff).

I want to do this so I can encode all 6 episodes + 3 bonus programs "as one" and thus maximize the quality (rather than giving each program 233MB to get encoded with, I encode 3 episodes and 2 bonus features to 700MB, so if one program is very compressible and the others aren't, they will be encoded to different filesizes).

Ok, I've no idea what you mean by all this chapter / cell clicking stuff.
Here, take a look at the attached pics. This dvd has 2 angles for this pgc. You can quite clearly see from the pics that angle 1 includes different cells to angle 2. Clicking on the angle and hitting the 'Decrypt' button is all you have to do. I've just this second tested it myself and it works perfectly.

Oh and it will only revert your stream processing options to defaults if you select a different pgc or whatever. If you just click on the input tab, nothing changes.

Ah, well. It definitely did not work before. Why I was ending up with all angles with in same stream. Why I assumed I needed to actually uncheck the cells I did not want extracted. I did not even think to test it by simply selecting the angle. It seemed logical it would extract everything that was checked.

I saw on your site that Decrypter is not able to decrypt audio DVDs yet. Something to do for the future versions. Also a help file briefly explaining all the options would be great. Or context sensitive help for all the options and maybe hints.

LIGHTNING UK!
30th December 2003, 09:24
Well if angles are present and you don't select one, you cant rip!
And it WILL rip everything that is checked.
I'm sorry but you've got to be getting things confused here, there is no other explanation.

DVD-Audio protection hasnt been cracked yet. Thats why my program doesnt support it.

Hi,

agree that the tool is pretty complete - but how about demuxing the .ac3 audio directly into discrete .wav files?

Would that be to complex/out of scope?

there really isnt much more you could do without turning dvddecrypter in to something else.

only thing i can probably think of is multiple pgc rip in ifo mode to multiple destinations(batch rip ?) or same base destination with created sub-folders.

This might be a little off topic, but is it possible for dvddecrypter to crack a vob file that has already been copied to the hd ? In my case I got a movie with scrambled menu because I forgot to decrypt the menu files the first time. Now I cant seem to decrypt the menu file without having the original disc, is there a way around this ?

DVDDecrypter can't rip from files, and there's a good reason for it.

DVD Decrypter works at a lower level whereby it communicated directly with the drive instead of going via the OS and taking its word for things. Reading files is not possible.

You could use image tools to make an ISO, mount the ISO with daemon tools, then rip from the virtual drive (the mounted ISO).

Not sure that it would work though, and it seems like a lot of trouble. It's probably a lot easier to just go grab the original disk off the shelf

@Loop: You could use VStrip if your ok with using a commandline.
i.e. VStrip Menu.vob -oMenuDecrypted.vob

Will take menu.vob and decrypt it to MenuDecrypted.vob...

Isecond the vote for multiple(batch) ripping into generated flders or somehting, for episode disks in ifo mode! As it is I must rip one episode, thn watch it progress iuntil one is done, then do another.

youll be my hero if you include this!

I place my vote for batch ripping. It is a feature i have been craving for the last 6months. Taking into account i currently own 22 box sets and counting of just tv series. It is a real pain in the ass ripping them as you must stay at the computer and rip each title. If i could select the title, where on the disk i wanted to save it, then rip them all at once, it would be a real time/sanity saver.

Kedirekin

Doesn't DoItFast4U give you the equivalent of batch ripping?

LIGHTNING UK!
3rd January 2004, 19:05
Yeah totally!

Either use that or learn to use the CLI.

Stabmaster-Arson
3rd January 2004, 21:25
Is there a guide for the cli?

LIGHTNING UK!
3rd January 2004, 21:48
No but I went to the trouble of writing a 'readme' file. Its in the same folder as the exe. You can also access it off the 'start' bar.

Stabmaster-Arson
4th January 2004, 02:18
Don't think I didn't ask without looking. I did check the "help" option, and also your website, before I posted. Might I suggest a link to the readme from the help button? That's where most programs access help from.

Cheers.

LIGHTNING UK!
4th January 2004, 12:20
Its not help, its a readme.txt file
It offers nothing except CLI info. Of course if you were really into your CLI stuff the first thing you'd have tried is 'dvddecrypter.exe /?' - That also works.

Any having just looked at my start bar, almost every other program in the world seems to do the same thing.

I'd like to see a preview window too.

To be honest, that's the main reason I use DVDShrink instead of DVDDecrypter.

LIGHTNING UK!
7th January 2004, 12:26
The two programs perform different functions. There's no need for a preview window if you're just going to be ripping all the files.

keep it how it is. make some tiny improvements here and there but that's it. don't be one of the authors who keeps adding features and features and before you know it you have a nice piece of bloat in your hands!

Hi, what about a GUI making batch rip jobs.
Eg. i have archived over 50 dvd isos backuped with dvddecryptor iso mode and now i wanna do stuff with em. Like do ure stuff and and add to batch job, and in the end, run it? (i mount em through d-tools)

Is this possible to add?

And btw is it possible to read ISO's directly in dvddecryptor isntead of going through appslike d-tools? (i see that u can do this in the cli, but i cant seem to find it in the gui)
Or is it much work to add it?

thx for a very nice app!!

Yup, Keep it as it is. Definitely the best ripper by far. Even VStrip (which I love) has far more bugs in than DVD Decrypter.

Two very minor things I would suggest though:

1) When the user gets a "Check Condition" Error/Warning...give more of a description saying that the DVD is possibly unclean and it is not readable and that they should try in another DVD drive, etc etc. The normal kind of stuff you would say here (because every week someone posts asking what the "Check Condition" error means (even though it's obvious ;) )

2) If giving the error: "Brute force cracking failed: reason: no vunrable blocks" why not give the user a yes/no messagebox which will offer to try and crack the next vob in the set and use the key from that to decrypt the current vob ? (You may already be doing that, I dont know)

My 2 cents as koepi would say,

1 tiny thing. when in iso/write the button text over for the write button should really say write or burn and not decrypt. :)

Spotted that ages ago :)

I was playing with stuff pre 3.1.9.0 final release and forgot to change it.

How about having an option to save the decrypted movie into a matroska file? I don't mean converting anything, just demuxing from the .vobs and muxing into a .mkv directly. Then you can load directly into vdubmod or something. And maybe add chapters and subs right into it ;). It shouldn't be that hard, I think...

IMHO it's not necessary, and will probably just add unneccesary bloat. Plenty of other ways to do this.

1) The MMC errors arent very (n00b) user friendly, I know, but there's more logic involved than simply saying such and such an error always means the disc is dirty etc (as I am sure you know). So to be honest, I'd rather leave it for me to get their error logs and figure out the problem.

2) I havent been doing this but it's something I'd always mean to.
The past few versions have had a fail back if *any* file in a given VTS set's key had been deduced but a particular file later on in that set failed. It would then prompt them if they wanted to use the key it had already found.
Now this is all well and good but its normally the _0.VOB file that fails so of course it wouldnt have ever found a key!
I've now made it offer the user the option of trying to get keys from all vobs in the vts set in turn - before finally giving up!

I'd love to see a "Split By: Angle VobIds" option in IFO mode. This would process and split out only the VobIds of the selected angle that actually belong to a multiangle cell block, not all the others.

Reason is, for reauthoring multiangle movies, you currently effectively have to rip the movie twice, that is ripping each angle and splitting by VobId also rips all the VobIds that are "by itself" and not part of an angle. So with this option, you could first rip Angle 1 as usual, then switch to "Angle VobIds" splitting, select Angle 2 and you get only the VobIds that really are for Angle 2 of the multiangle parts. Of course I could rip the VTS in file mode and split by VobId, but that doesn't give me the nice option to include the angle number in the file names :)

And speaking of naming, when "Include Angle number" is checked and splitting by VobId, the VobIds that are not part of an angle block probably shouldn't have any angle number attached to the name. Makes it easier to remember what VobIds need or do not need to be treated special when reencoding for multiple angles.

well since i originally mentioned multiple PGC ripping(simply in reply to what else could be done) i supose i should defend it a little. :)

since dvddecrypter already has the function built in(from cli) adding multiple PGC selection from the main window(and adding directories to path when more than 1 PGC selected) should not be a major task.

why not do it from cli ? dvddecrypter is a gui usage program aswell and i think you will find it is the gui that is commonly used. more newbie freindly aswell. :)

why not do it with doitfast4u ? since it is a function already in dvddecrypter then why should people need to run/learn another program to get it to do that function ?

well as i said i thought i should defend it at least once and have(i think). so i will say no more on it. :D

Yeah, probably ... but honestly, I prefer doing things manually so I stay in control of everything and if something doesn't come out right, I know it was my fault :p. Anyway, not a big deal. Windows Commander's multi-rename tool works wonders in such cases.

DVD Decrypter cant do it, it still only rips 1 pgc at a time.
Using CLI or DoItFast4U means the program opens/closes several times to get the data you want ripped, ripped.

So, it will be a major task :)

You can split by Chapter in 3.1.9.0. In IFO mode, of course.

Sure, for 1 chapter only.

But when I choose chapters 1,5,7 the ripped VOBs is 1 big VOB.
I prefer to get 3 VOBs.

thank you.

By selecting 'By Chapter' in the IFO mode file splitting options, it will do exactly what you want it to.

Select as many chapters as you like and it will output them into their own vobs.
