i want use virtualdub mod to add a ssa subtitls on the avi file. when i open the file i got those warning information

[!] Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'WMV3' (unknown).
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this video.

what should i do?

Welcome to Doom9's forum!

This hasn't received a reply in Newbies, I'm now going to move your request to the VDubMod forum. Good luck!

VirtualDubMod doesn't deal with external SSA.
You better use AVIMux-GUI (alexnoe's tool) for that.

The message you receive is here to tell you that you don't have a valid VFW (Video For Windows) codec to decompress the format inside your file.
You will still be able to edit the clip (unlikely to VirtualDub which doesn't open the file in this case) but only in DirectStream copy (and without any preview of course).

'WMV3' is the Windows Media 9 VCM codec, IIRC.

No, you can't. VirtualDub cannot deal with avi files for which you don't have the right codec installed...
