For those that own older Toshiba and some other set top DVD Players that wants to play +R media, now it's possible.
I own both an NEC 1100A and NEC 1300A. The 1100A is my initial burner and everything worked fine in my Toshiba player. When I got the 1300A, I have started to notice that the same media burn does not play.
After some reading here, it was quite simple to figure out what the problem is:
RPC1 Thread (http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=19067)
Some older players are set to only read DVD-ROM book type only and most dual format burner will only write DVD+R book type.
BronkowTech45 over at RPC1 was nice enough to invest his time in hacking the 1.08 firmware of the 1300A to figure out how to change the book type. With the help of Herrie ( www.herrie.org (http://www.herrie.org) ), a new firmware NEC108v2 has been release to address this problem. By default it will set the book type to DVD-ROM for DVD+R media.
I have tested it on a few disk that I have burn before that did not play, but now play after I rip it and burn it again using the new firmware.
Firmware available at Herrie's Site (http://www.herrie.org) under the hack NEC 1300A section.
:) :) :D :D
Thanks to those guys for the hard work!!!!
