video ahead of audio (sync error)

Hi, first I would like to stress that I have used the search function, as I'm sure that this issue has been touched before. But I cant find the answer.

I'm having this problem, when capturing from my TV-card. The captured XVID file starts OK, but after a while, the video is ahead of the sound, then from time to time, the video stutter, and the sound catch up. Then it starts to separete again until the next catch up.

If I use the time-line (Zoomplayer) and jumps to a new place in the movie, the sound and video is OK, but after a little while, the video is again in front of audio.

I'm using XVID 1 beta 2. The sound is compressed as MP3. The CPU usage during encoding is about 70-85% (Barton 2800, 256 DDRAM).

Therefore I have these questions:
A. Is there anyway to tell XVID when to wait for the audio (If I could make this happen every 10 sec insted of every 2-3 min as it is now, I think it would be better)?

B. In line with no A, during the encoding, can I force the video and audio to be in sync at specified times? Has that anything to do with the different frame types?

C. Will the Reclock filter be usefull in this situation?

It sound like a video decoder problem and not a synch issue.If its in synch each time you seek to another position then it is in synch.What decoder do you use(zoomplayer rightclick and choose"filters").If its ffdshow then try uninstalling it to force xvid decoder to be used.It may also be the mp3 track if it is vbr(cbr should mbe ok), best option is to cap the audio to wav and take it out later, reencode it to Ogg and remux to OGM or matroska, assuming you have wnough space to cap to wav.

Thank you for your suggestion, I followed your advise.

In XP I used the opportunity to go back to an earlier set-up (don't know the english name for that feature). Then reinstalled the newest XVID 1, beta 3. And you were correct, even the files that were out of sync before, now plays OK.

Actually I think the problem was with the Lame MP3 encoder (I installed a Kazaa lite codec pack), but now everything is OK - so thank you for your help.

Hehe... dont install codec packs - they are evil ;)
