View Full Version : ReAuthorist & Subtitles

I'm using DoItFast4U (1.4.0), ReAuthorist (1.0.0), BatchCCEWS (0.9.1.2) And Scenarist (2.6) for a while now, but everytime I make a backup of a dvd, it ends up too big to fit on a DVD+/-R. When I strip some subtitles in DoItFast4U, it comes out fine. When I uncheck an audio-stream in ReAuthorist, the total ReAuthored size lowers with it, but when I uncheck some subtitles (when I haven't stripped them in DIF4U) the total ReAuthored size stays the same.
So does my dvd end up too big because ReAuthorist does it's calculation without the subtitles (and the .mpv becomes too big), or is there another cause?

Well, subtitles don't take much space on the final authored dvd, only some kb in most cases. They don't take that much place like the demuxed bitmaps.
That's the reason why nearly nothing changes in RA when you uncheck a subtitle stream.

Then why is it when I strip subtitles (Saving Private Ryan) from the movie using ifoedit, that I can get the total size down bij 40 MB?

40 MB subtitles...that sounds quite unusual to me. The subtitles ripped to bitmaps take lot of space, that's true, but not very much when authored back to dvd.
Have no clue on that, maybe they are really that big, for what reason ever

They are as big as the .sub files you see in your DoItFast4U! working directory ;)

And those can be big (like with another DVD 40 Days & 40 Nights 70 MB). Could this be the cause to my oversizing?

Yes, I guess it could be if RA doesn't account for those. DoItFast4U!'s internal calculator does, and I don't use RA for anything besides the .scp creation, so I've never had this issue.

Well, I'll try what you do and see if the problem still exists. I'll post the result here.

I already know that if you go DoItFast4U-> DoCCE/BatchCCE-> RA (for .scp only) you won't turn out oversized, but I'll wait for your reply anyway :D

Tried it with a movie (that came out oversized) following DIF4U->BatchCCEWS->RA and it has the right size now, so I think it's a bug in RA. Thanks Eyes' Only
