TV Repair?

I am having a problem with my toshiba 55" cinema series tp55h95 rear projection tv. it is 5yrs 2mos old and the extended warranty just ran out.
The convergence keeps going out of whack. I re adjust it but it doesn't stay. it is the red color on the plus sign that is out of alignment and it is worse toward the edges. please advice me as to what kind of repair it needs, what it should cost, and if i can do it myself.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

There are 2 large 'flat pack' ic's that act as convergence offset amps. The IC's are about 4" wide and are clamped to a heatsink, usually by screws in each end. The ic's are physically mounted in the same general area and should be easy to spot. The failure you describe is common- the shop I manage does several of these type complaints a week. (Sony, Mits, and Pioneer; no Toshiba though the circuits are similar) Check for cold solder connections on the pins- use a bright light and a magnifing glass and physically nudge each wire- or just carefully resolder the whole IC (about 30 wires each)
If the soldering looks OK, one or both of the ICs has failed. The part number usually starts with 'STK-' and can be obtained from a parts jobber. Not a bad idea to replace both. MCM Electronics (google) should have them-
