Just one thing, I couldn't get the command line switch /START to work with this new version ? Is it just me or is this a bug ?

If the normal 'decrypt' / 'write' button is greyed out, it wont work.

I just tested it myself and it appears fine.

I'm getting an error message when I insert a dvd to rip.

Disc Authentication Failed

Reason: Authentication Success Flag = FALSE

I have played the dvd before hand to make sure that wasn't a problem. I am running Elaborate Bytes' Region Killer and I have tried turning it on and off. OS is WinXP and the drive has been flashed with a region free firmware, this onehttp://etna.rpc1.org/nec/index.html

That flag should be set to true if authentication was successful.
However, if it wasnt successful, I'd have expected it to error out before that stage.

Does it happen on all discs?

Does it happen with the non hacked firmware?

I just ran this software on a DVD, and when I try to open the IFO file it creates with PowerDVD - nothing happens.

How do I take the output of this software and make it work? I ultimately want to take the output and burn it onto a DVD-R.

Does this software preseve the menu?

Please help. I read the Doom9 guide, but it does not tell you what to do after you've extracted using IFO mode...

I've just upgraded to 3.1.8.0 today and I tried to rip Minority Report R2 to test this new version.
I ripped the whole DVD to an ISO, without trouble.
The problem arises when DI4FU calls DVD Decrypter. DVD Decrypter shows an error message saying (I have the message in French, I'll try to do my best to translate it) :
Unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occurred at offset 0x77e53887.
When I click Ok, the same message appears with the same addresses, then a third message appears with 'Abnormal program termination'.

I didn't test this DVD with 3.1.7.0 but I didn't have any problem before.

Am I the only one having this error ? Maybe I did something wrong ?

Yes, there is an issue with the CLI command /START.

It never happend on my machine, nor Eyes`Only's machine.

It has been fixed an 3.1.9.0 will be available within the next few hours - or whenever the mirror sites update themselves :)

There also seems to be a problem with the final VOB file.

It opens ok with PowerDVD, but returns an error with NeroVision Express. Only the LAST VOB file... all the others seem fine. This has happened with 2 different 'rips'.

It doesnt care about the 'order' of vobs.

Maybe your method of backing up is wrong?

If however you can check/prove right now that 3.1.7.0 works and 3.1.8.0 fails, I'll look into it.

Hmm... ok, well here is what I did:

Load DVD.
Use IFO mode to choose main movie
Use Stream Processing to copy only the 2 channel English Audio, mapped to x80. Direct stream copy.
Rip to hard disk.

Open NeroVision Express. Nero properly imports VOB 1-4, these are 1,048,xxx Kbytes each... Fifth VOB is 707,450K.

Fifth VOB won't go into Nero. Even if it's the ONLY VOB I'm importing. So perhaps, my thought is, that the stream processing had some effect?? I just don't know.

It was the firmware. I changed the RPC1 firmware I had on it to a RPC2 region resetting firmware and all worked fine.

I ripped a Shaw Brothers R3 DVD to my hard drive with the newest version and when I go to load the IFO into DVD Shrink 3 Beta 5, it refuses to load. I've had this happen on a few DVDs that were ripped with the previous version of DVD Decrypter (not 3.1.8.0) but when I ripped them with SmartRipper, they load fine in DVD Shrink.

I use file mode and have every setting on default. If there is any other information needed to see what can be wrong, let me know.

What exactly is the error that DVDShrink is throwing out?

DVD Shrink has encountered an error and cannot continue.
The error is:

Programming error - exception occured

The reason: Not enough storage is available to process this command.


Which makes no sense b.c I have fair enough room to back up the DVD on the same drive. Now if I ripped the DVD with SmartRipper, this error does not come up. Also I just encountered a real nice error with DVD Decryptor ripping R1 Two Towers, but my computer would not save the screenshot. I guess whenever I tried to access a view of my drives any program doing so, froze.

I'm using a IDE card with a DVD-Rom hooked up through it for my ripping and this new version of DVDD seems to be acting up with it. The slightest error locks up the program and drive. Then access to other programs becomes a hard journey that leads to a forced reboot.

I'm not blamming your program for any of that, but it could be making the error act up more. If you have a link for 3.1.7.0 I can test out what I am doing now and see if the same errors occur.

From what I've just read over at digital-digest, that dvdshrink error is due to its inability to read vob files that are exactly 1GB in size.
Ripping in file mode with totally default settings (i.e. File splitting at 'by file') would only cause this problem if the original files on the dvd were 1GB in size.

If you'd like to troubleshoot futher, rip to an ISO, mount in DAEMON Tools and then process in dvdshrink - directly from the virtual drive. There shouldnt be a difference between the two so if there is, let me know.

What I have done when that happened was use DVD Shrink directly from the DVD-Rom drive and DVD Shrink opened it fine. That would be the same as mounting the ISO correct? I'll try the ISO method also, but it seems that reading the DVD directly from the drive would be the same effect.

I recently demuxed a DVD with this new version, and the program reported a frame size of 352x480 (Half D1).

However, the DVD in question had been created on a standalone (unknown make/model), and the actual frame size was 704x480. Not the usual 720x480 NTSC resolution, but still a valid one, I think.

VDubMod reported the correct frame size for the VOBs and for the demuxed m2v file. The resulting m2v file seemed fine, just the info from DVD Decrypter was wrong. A small bug, perhaps?

704 isnt an allowable value from what I can see on the DVD Information website. Well, not so far as the IFO file is concerned anyway.

If you were talking about File mode stream processing, thats a whole different matter!

It is allowed as an mpeg2 stream but the IFO file doesnt detail it.
Thats why I put 'Well, not so far as the IFO file is concerned anyway.'

Something that would be VERY useful would be support for the DVD-RAM/DVD-VR format (w/ VR_MANGR.IFO/VR_MOVIE.VRO). One problem when recording on RAM is that unless you have a Panasonic burner you don't get the software necessary to manipulate the program on the disc. The VRO file by itself is a MPEG2 file (w/different mux info AFAIK) but is accepted by many editors (MPEG2VCR) without complaint, but IF you have multiple programs in the file, MPEG2VCR will get very, very confused (audio sync errors, gop time codes messed up).

What would be VERY NICE would be an extension to IFO mode to read the VRO/IFO structure to extract the programs to seperate files (the Panasonic utility [which has to have a Panasonic drive in the system to install] will only pull them one at a time.

I could send you some discs with the VRO structure on them if you needed (they don't have to be RAM's, the structure is still valid if you burn them to DVD-R).

Can someone help me? I keep getting errors when starting DVD Decrypter 3.1.9.0.

I get the following errors:
"Access violation at address 00504864 in module 'DVDDecrypter.exe'. Write of address 00000180."
after I click on OK DVD Decrypter does start.

another error I sometimes get is:
"EAccessViolation"
When I click on OK I get multiple errors:
the first one is the standard Windows (XP) window which says something like (got a dutch windows so here's a translation): DVDDecrypter.exe had an error and need to be shut down (appologies for the discomfort..'
I can then choose to track the error or close the program. When I choose to close the program the same error pops up. After another close I get an error:
"Access violation at address 5565766F. Read of address 5565766F"
this error keep poppin up and after that I get the following error:
"Access violation at address 00227669. Write of address 039B2158"
these 2 errors (read/write) keep poppin up lots of times. Finaly I get a "Abnormal program termination" and can't close that.

Only option is to go to the task mannager and close the proccess over there..

Perhaps I just wasted 10 minutes writing down these errors but on the other hand you might know what the problem is here.

I've tried reinstalling dvd decrypter but it doesn't matter. Any thoughts?
