Anyone else here heard that using the labels printed from your printer for DVD's causes problems?

This has been discussed quite a bit lately. Simply search for "DVD and Labels and Problems" and you will come up with quite a few threads on the subject.

I was looking at those units that print directly onto a dvd, but then I thought that it would be better to invest in a packet of two dollar sharpies instead of a hundred dollar dvd printer.

If you are doing something professional then it might be worth the money but I didn't find it cost effective for me

Printing on the disc surface is more expensive than using a Sharpie, but I usually take the expensive, tech solution. :)

I use an Epson Stylus Photo 960 to print on my CD/DVD surfaces - makes very very professional looking discs. Impresses friends well, and printing on the disc is great for when you're flipping through a huge book of discs, trying to find one quickly...

I used to do inkJet labels, but when water or some sort of liquid splatters on it, that blotch just irks me to death! :(

That is annoying.

As a rule, I keep liquid away from my archives.

Epson does have a series of printers that use water-proof ink. They have neat little displays in stores with their ink printed on paper, submerged in water. No idea of the price though.
