Hi,
I'm thinking of getting an elta 8883 or similar MT1389xx Based Player.
How do these players compare to big-brand Sony DVD players for regular DVD playback, picture quality and sound quality?
Are there any reasons why I should buy a high street DVD player instead of an MPEG4 player?
Thanks.

I also would like to know if it upconverts the signal to 1080i through component outputs (sort of like Liteon 2001). Thanks

The elta 8883 DVD playback is very good. I even bought it for DVD playback. I just take MP4 videos playback as an extra. It supports progressive scan, but ofcourse you have to have a screen that supports it. There is no point of progressive on "ordinary" TV's.
Plasma screens and similar appply here.
Best Regards

That is very exciting that the player has an excellent DVD playback. But for those of us with 1080i-capable HDTV, will this player upconvert to 1080i through component outputs? Does anyone know? Noone?

I dont think so.
I can only check the RGB Progressive Scan Output and it just uses standard PAL/NTSC resolution.
Theres also nothing in the setup to change resolution.
