Hello everyone. I have finally had a question that I couldn't find enough info on so i figured I would ask the experts. I am interested in Putting all my movies from DVD onto a tivo, if its possible. Now if it is possible would I be able to utilize DVI outputs from my DVD player to the Tivo? Once you get the movies onto the Tivo would it just play the movie or would it show the main menu of the movies? The reason why I am interested in doing this is because I am tired of taking in and out DVD's and don't really care for the jukebox DVD players. I think it would be cool to be able to scroll through a menu and be able to watch whatever dvd I own without having to pull out a DVD. Thank

i know you can play them through the tivo, but to record them to the tivo, i thinkyou would have to load them on the tivo hd first and put them in the now playing dat file for them to show up.

What you need to do is copy it in manual mode. I usually pause the
DVD player right at the begining of the movie, start recording and press play on the DVD player. After it records, you will find all your movies in the "Now playing list"

Hope this helps

TiVo records everything based on it's guide, so the length of the DVD movie and the quality of recording(Best, High, Medium or Basic) must be kept in mind when doing your Manual Recording. Assuming you have DirecTV and an switch for selecting the Super Video input between Satellite or DVD, select DVD as a source and record from any PPV or Preview channel on DirecTV that has a 6HR expand so it won't be cut short, then make sure to be there near the end of the movie so you could stop the recording on time. The Now Showing list will show you the program/date recorded from the guide only, you won't be able to edit this list unless you hack your Tivo and add TivoWeb or any other utility that allows you to do so. Also remember the space used by these recordings are based on the capacity of your drive, Best(2.7GB/hr) is a good choice, High(1.6GB/hr) is SVCD quality, but Medium(1.24GB/hr) and Basic(730MB/hr) have very bad quality especially with high action and full screen movies.
