View Full Version : VCDXbuild makes an NTSC image; PAL selected

After I have succesfully created an scvd mpeg file, vcdxbuild makes an ntsc bin/cue image, while an pal image should be made. Pal is selected ofcourese. The resolution of the mpeg is 480x576/25 and the created xml file looks ok.
If I play the svcd on a standalone the well known black bars are shown above and below the picture. In WinDVD the details show 480x576/25, but as filesystem ntsc.
Is there a known issue about this?
For those interesed, below I've pasted the VCXBuilder_log.txt
If you need more info, pls let me know.

Cheers

NTSC file system? Never heard of that. If the output stream is PAL, I guess it's PAL. Try looking at it with Bitrate Viewer.

Also, you might burn a CD-WR to check what your standalone recognizes.

BTW, since it's more like a problem post, I moved it to the pertaining forum.

I did burn it to a rw and played it on a standalone (Pioneer 305) at my fathers house, who has a 4:3 tv. It showed black bars above and below the picture while it clearly has the right PAL sizing. If I play the disk in WinDVD and look at the properties, it says 480x576/NTSC encoded. If I play only the mpeg, which is used by VCDXbuild for creating the bin/cue image, it is showed properly; 480x576/PAL. Clearly something is happening during the authoring step. I tried to re-encode and re-authoring, but every time the outcome is the same.

I would not worry if I were you. What WinDVD says is irrelevant if the standalone plays it correctly as PAL.

That's exactly the problem; it doesnt play correctly. The stream says ntsc while its pal, so the tv switches to ntsc and squashes the picture a bit, resulting in black bars and deformed figures

OK, from your post above I understood it played correctly (you said it has "the right PAL sizing") :). Sorry about that.

Did you check the stream with BR Viewer as recommended above?

Can you play it with other software player, like PowerDVD or WMP? Does it work OK?

I don't think it has to do with authoring, since the VCDXbuild log looks OK. How are you burning the stuff? Maybe you are reathoring it somehow? Or just burning the bin with CDRAO?

Try this: play the original MPEG2, from the Muxed folder (you have to use "Don't delete any files"). Also check with BR Viewer what it says.

Then rip with VCDEasy the MPEG2 from the bin file and do the same. Compare both results. They should be identical.

At last, rip from the burned CD and do the same. Tell us the results.
