a few questions regarding the filters:
is it possible to use the non-unicode versions of the filters on xp/2k systems? it's just such a hassle to include both versions in the same pack and then have some OS detection algorithm to install the correct one. i'd rather include the most compatible version and be done with it, even if i lose unicode support with it (i'd put a warning in the pack ofcourse).
second of all, vsfilter doesn't work here, is there another filter needed for it to work correctly? (subtitle source etc.)
lastly, isn't there another ogmsplitter available? oggds isn't being developped anymore and i prefer corevorbis over oggds. yes you can install both but i would love to ditch oggds completely.

I've installed unicode VSFilter on my Windows XP and it is working perfectly. ;)
(At least, the Arabic chars on the Matroska Matrix sample shows as it should)

Yes, it is possible to use the normal builds for xp/2k, but it's no option to not support unicode!
Anyway, the additional unicode builds don't need too much space and I think some people appreciate unicode-support!

What subtitle format do you have? What exactly doesn't work?

What do you mean a OGM-splitter or a ogg vorbis decoder? CoreVorbis is just a vorbis decoder, nothing more...
And AFAIK OggDS is a OGM-splitter and a vorbis decoder, right?
So you want a other splitter for ogms but not the OggDS one, was this you question?

OggDS can decode the vorbis audio streams, but now you can connect CoreVorbis to it and have it decode your audio stream. That's probably why he thought you didn't need OggDS.
I have a question, is there another splitter for OGM's other than OggDS?

There are a few different versions of OggDS floating around from when the sources for it were released. People use different ones with varying success, but none are perfect and noone is developing them anymore.
As far as decoding, you should always use CoreVorbis to decode Vorbis audio.

Maybe I didn't express myself clear enough. I already use CoreVorbis for decoding the audio. But CoreVorbis is only for audio decoding, you still need a splitter for splitting the OGM files. Currently there is only one option for that that I know of: oggDS. Now I want to ditch oggDS for 3 reasons:
1. it's not being maintained anymore
2. the interaction between oggDS splitter and corevorbis decoder is not very good, i get frequent crashes when switching between ogm files during playback.
3. overhead, it's stupid to install a splitter and a decoder and then install another decoder to use instead of the other decoder you just installed. Besides, oggds needs a lot of extra dll's to register correctly.
So I'm looking for an alternate SPLITTER - not audio decoder, for use with corevorbis.
I hope my point got across now. (maybe it's in the wrong thread for asking this kind of question, where should i put it?)

As for the VSfilter crashes, it freezes whatever player I use on loading, no error, just stops responding. So my previous question could pertain in this one: is there another filter available for watching subtitles in matroska files then vsfilter?

S”nTė£,
I think that's the problem with OGM at the moment, there's nobody working on it :(
Or does anybody have any news concering OggDS or another OGM splitter?
Why don't you give Matroska a try? (this answer isn't really helpful, is it :p)
By the way, I answered your VSFilter problem in the original thread..

gabest has developed an own oggsplitter, maybe its possible to make a mpc-independant compile?

Yeah I switched to matroska because of this, it's just that currently i don't have an ogm splitter installed at all, and it's a bit of a hassle having to convert all these ogm's just to be able to watch/preview them.
That's an interesting suggestion bond, i'm gonna contact gabest (have mailed with him be4) and see what he thinks of it - and put my vsfilter problem before hime too ;)

Nic has also developped an standalone-splitter for OGMs, he told me on beginning of December 2003.
Unfortunately, Nic changed harddisk, so I still hope he can find the filter on his old disk.
