hi8 capturen - sound problem

hi!

i have a hi8 camcorder (canon v60HiE)
i want to capture it. i have a s-vhs in and a line-in on the pc and the camcorder have a s-vhs out and a av-out.
i use virtualdubmod... i have an exceptable picture but NO sound... i connected it via s-vhs cabel and the av-out with the line-in.
what's wrong...

A common problem during setup is to have the audio driver for your soundcard set to Mic-in rather than Line-in for "Recording". The actual procedure will vary depending on your soundcard drivers; but to reach the controls either connect via the soundcard control in your System Tray, or through the "Sounds and Multimedia" applet in the Control Panel.

I hope this is your problem, and that you have enough information now to correct it.

thx, that's the problem...
but now i have another one, also dealing with the audio thing - i get a sound, but it is very very noisy and you understand hardly anything. what should i do, is there a way to solve this problem...

Audio interference could be many different things, the most common audio interference is probably a low hum (50Hz), caused by a nearby power cord or power supply, or perhaps insufficient or improper grounding of your equipment. If that's the trouble, better grounding or moving cords may reduce or eliminate that kind of problem.

You may also have trouble with a low quality or old audio cord that isn't shielded well.

Of course, these are just guesses, if you have a common problem.

yeah!... finally i got it!
after a while trying this and that...
the thing is that i get only "mono" sound, but i can live with this...
i'll explain my problem, cause i think it could help others;
as i have already written above, i connect the camcarder with the line in and get this loud noise.
i don't know why, but it is only the right stereo channel where only noise is and no sound. the left side is ok, there is proper sound. so i have to capture in stereo mode and then delete the right-channel. i tried to record mono, but then i also have the noise... seems that it just captures the two stereo channels into one?

ok, one problem solved, next to be solved...
i want to capture with VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 but i get always this error:

so i try to capture with virtual vrc, but i'm a little bit confused about the settings: there are pal_b, pal_d, pal_g and so on, wich one should i take? -(i use Huffyuv 2.1.1 - ccesp patch 0.2.2)
normally it captures with a resolution of 320x240 but isn't this a little bit small. so i changed it to 720x576 - the resolution i would get width vdm, but then i get white stripes, looks like the stripes of an old television but in white, not black. is there a solution?

in the end i also wanted to know, what settings are the best to encode it with cce to a svcd, using dvd2svcd

That sounds like you haven't properly plugged in the cable. Check either side - the camcorder and the PC. Another possibility is that the heads in your camcorder need adjustment.

the cable is properly plugged - on both sides. i have no idea how or if its even possible to adjust the camcorder, so i have to do the workaround like i described it.

but i still have the problems width vdm and vcr.
