No audio when converting, but great audio when playing

I'm sure I a doing something rather dumb:o , but for the life of me I can't get a handle on it.

I'm trying to convert an AVI file to DVD or any other format. If I play the AVI in Win med player or AVI player or ATI player, all is well with both audio and video.

If I atampt to convert it I get great video, but no audio. What's more, if I chech the "source range" in TMPGen there is no audio shown under the video box.

The AVI file is described as with AVICodec
Video : 605 MB, 807 Kbps, 23.976 fps, res. 448*336 (4:3), DIV3 = DivX v3 ;-) MPEG-4 (Low-Motion), Supported

Audio : 99 MB, 133 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 chan., 0x55 = Lame MP3, Supported

VCSwap shows that I do have div3 codec and it is active.

I have another file with the same audio stats (0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Lay), but with DX50/DIVX, so I'm assuming it's in the
div3 and not the audio.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Tmpgenc has a pretty crappy audio. I find it better to seperate the audio first. Try this. Load your avi into virtualdub. Select audio-->full processing. Then select file-->save wav. Do you get sound from the wav? If so use BeSweet and process the wav to your desired output. If you don't want to do that you can use toolame withing Tmpgenc.

TMPGEnc also doesn't handle vbr mp3 well either. So it's a good idea to extract to wav in virtualdub or demux it in virtualdubmod and encoding it seperately in besweet or load the wav in tmpgenc.
