Hi guys,

Please help me out here. I'm a bit confuse on the process of encoding the audio. Here's my process so far:

1) I captured my DV video with Scenalyzer Live!
2) Edit the AVI file in Vegas 4.0 then render it.
3) Now I have a final AVI file.
4) Now what?

Im planning to encode this final AVI file in TMPGEnc Plus.

From what I've heard, you should seperate the audio and video file from the final AVI file. Just encode the video part with TMPGEnc Plus and encode the audio file with another program like ffmpegGUI.

My friend said I should do this because my standalone player wouldn't be able to play the audio. He said I should convert the audio to AC-3 first.

Can someone give me a brief guide on how to do this? Wouldn't TMPGEnc do this for me?

Well, what format are you encoding the avi file to? If it's SVCD use mp2. You don't need to "seperate it from the avi", you can tell tmpgenc to use a seperate encoder for the audio (toolame) for mp2. If you're encoding for dvd then yes you'll need ac-3.. Hope this helps at all.

Thanks insane822,

Im planning to encode it to DVD format. Can you recommend some good programs for this (convert to AC-3)?

BTW, I heard TMPGEnc Plus will convert my audio to standard PCM. In that case, I don't need to separate the video and audio file after editing in Vegas right? I can just load the final .avi file to TMPGEnc Plus and let the program do the conversion. Is this possible?
Are you recommending the conversion to AC-3 instead?

Tmpgenc has a crappy audio encoder. I use Toolame with it. Even then Tmpgenc sometimes has problems with the audio. I always split the audio and encode seperately. BeSweet is a good choice for the audio. To ensure your dvd is compliant it must have either pcm or ac3 audio. It has been my experience that most players work fine with mp2 audio. If your player with play a svcd, it will accept mp2.
