Hi all,
i discovered a few days ago that by changing the priority of my media player, i could view videos and keep using my internet connexion without having the video skipping frames.

My question is : how can i change the default task priority of my media player, so that i don't have to use the task manager to raise it ?

Any answer welcome. :D

I just tried to start wmplayer through a batch script with "start /B /HIGH" but somehow wmplayer ignores the /HIGH parameter and starts in normal priority mode anyways, hmmm... I have no idea, why - this works for other programs (just tried the Windows calculator and it would start with high priority)

EDIT: It works with the Core Media Player ( www.corecoded.com )
It's a much better player anyways :)

OK, the procedure is (for Win2k/XP):

Add the Core Media Player directory to the system PATH, then open a new text file, add: start /B /HIGH coreplayer.exe
save and rename the file to Coreplayer.bat.
Now you should be able to start the player directly with high priority.
This is not a very nice solution, just a clumsy workaround. I guess someone can come up with something smoother :)

Thx for your answer. It's a nice workaround, but if i launch (for example) MPC by double-clicking on an avi file, it won't work. Should I modify the command line setting for each file format associated with the player, or is there anywhere a registry setting (for example, again) to set the priority of the task launched ?

Activate Task Manager (Alt Ctr Del for instance), then right click on process. Set Priority...

That's what i do right now, but i would like to have the priority set automatically. ;)

There's a fairly nifty program (not free though) called prioritymaster. It's also good to let you burn CD's and DVDs without fear of underrun while you're doing other things...

Check www.prioritymaster.com.

I've found it to be very helpful also for getting my prioritization under control - I can have encodes using Idle time in the background, but if you bring them to the foreground, they'll up their priority.
