I've read a few threads about multiple pgc's being the same length and i did the steps as i thought it said to do them but it's not working for me.
Using DOitFast4U i encoded VTS2 PGC1 not PGC2. i did all the other steps arrocding to the big 3 guide, then at the scenarist step i went to scenario editor opened up
VTS_02\VTS02_Title02 and deleted VTS_02_PGC_02pgc
then went to
VTS_02\VTS02_Title01
and copied
VTS_02_PGC_01pgc to
VTS_02\VTS02_Title02 and renamed to the file i deleted VTS_02_PGC_02pgc
Then do the next few steps according to the guide use img tool to create an iso of the files i end up with and the iso is just as big as the original.
I'm obvisly doing the scenarist bit wrong which i think it's ending up with two copies of the main movie making it so big. Can someone please tell me how to do the scenarist bit right. I've been trying to do it for weeks and i'm just out of ideas.

hi jed,
i havent tried this movie yet (so i dont know if theres any special steps involved).
Using DOitFast4U i encoded VTS2 PGC1 not PGC2. i did all the other steps arrocding to the big 3 guide, then at the scenarist step i went to scenario editor opened up
then went to
VTS_02\VTS02_Title01
and copied
VTS_02_PGC_01pgc to
VTS_02\VTS02_Title02 and renamed to the file i deleted VTS_02_PGC_02pgc

okay well, what you will have to do is delete the dummy cell for VTS_02_PGC_02, then using the cells from the 'tracks tab' - lower right hand side window of scenarist, drag and drop the cell information onto the VTS_02_PGC_02 pgc item, in order, in accordance with the ifo (as seen in ifoedit). you need to make sure that you create the structure exactly - corresponding chapters and cells.
hmmm...i am probably explaining this all rather badly i'm afraid (still in recovery mode from the weekend) but if you post a section of the ifo for VTS_02 i can run through that as an example if you like

okay i grabbed an example of an ifo to (hopefully) explain a bit better:

PGC_1 (program chain): [Title(TTN): 1] [01:42:43.00 / 25 fps] (Programs: 28) (Cells: 90) (uses VOB-IDs: 1)
[Ch 01] [Pg 01] [Cell 01] [V/C Id: 1/ 1]
[Cell 02] [V/C Id: 1/ 2]
[Cell 03] [V/C Id: 1/ 3]
[Cell 04] [V/C Id: 1/ 4] [Cell 05] [V/C Id: 1/ 5]
[Ch 02] [Pg 02] [Cell 06] [V/C Id: 1/ 6]
[Cell 07] [V/C Id: 1/ 7]
[Cell 08] [V/C Id: 1/ 8]
[Ch 03] [Pg 03] [Cell 09] [V/C Id: 1/ 9]
[Cell 10] [V/C Id: 1/10] [Cell 11] [V/C Id: 1/11]
[Ch 04] [Pg 04] [Cell 12] [V/C Id: 1/12]
[Cell 13] [V/C Id: 1/13] etc etc

so in this example, if you go to the 'track' tab in scenarist, find 'VTS_02_Title01, and select the '+' tab, and all the 'scenes' for that track will be shown.
after deleting the dummy chapter/cell RA creates, select the first 'scene/cell' from the track listing and drag and drop it over the pgc (it will be labelled as such) to create the first chapter. then select the second 'scene/cell'and drag and drop that onto the 'chapter' (it will also be labelled as such) to create the second 'cell'. repeat this for the next 3 'scene/cells'.
the next 'scene/cell'(number 6 in the list) you have to drag/drop ionto the 'pgc' to create another 'chapter'.
then drag/drop the next 2 scenes onto this 'chapter' to create the next two cells.
continue creating chapters and cells to match the original ifo.
sounds painful but it doesnt take all that long to do.

now your structure will obviously be different than this, so adapt to suit

hope that helps

Sorry if i sound like a complete git but this is the first time i've started using scenarist i've done a few good backups but i don't realy know my way around this program.
I've gone to the track tab like you said. But i just can't figure out how to delete the dummy cell or chapter or drag and drop anything at all it won't let me.
It will let me in the scenario tab but after i create the iso from editing the stuff u said in that tab the iso is still the same size as the original. The fact that i'm using 2.7 wouldn't make a diffenence would it?

If your using the assets properly the file size shouldn't grow.... try totally deleting PGC2 and create the layout w/ just PGC1.. - if that's the same size as your original then your problem's not PGC2 but something with your assets.

What are you usign to create the iso???

sorry jed for any confusion.
brain is a little fried from all the festivities  and i dont have scenarist here at work.

in the main window you have:
-data editor -track editor - scenario editor - layout editor

along the bottom, you have three smaller windows:
left window - "General/Build/Simultion/Import/Export"
middle window - property browser
right window - 'data' tab and 'tracks' tab

so yes, in the 'scenario editor' main window, using the scenes from the tracks tab in the lower right window.
Eyes`Only explains the step a lot better than i can in the 'finding nemo guide' in the section labelled
"Recreating the PGC to conform with ACM Mode - Create the single PGC"
you can find the guide here:
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/Eyes_Duplicate_PGC_Guide_to_Finding_Nemo.htm

but first i would try what D3s7 suggests of completely deleting PGC_2, compiling and seeing if you are still oversized.

O.K. i tried totally deleting PGC2 like you said D3s7.
I went to scenario editor and clicked on tracks in the bottom right hand cornor and deleted VTS_02_PGC_02
Then in scenario editor i expanded VTS_02 and deleted VTS02_Title02
Then i compiled it and created the ISO using IMG Tool Classic 0.91 and yes it was too big again.
So like you said D3s7 i must have something worng with my assets. So how do i go about fixing that?

hey jed,
what is the size of the VIDEO_TS folder in the '0' directory that scenarist creates for you?
if it is anything bigger than say 4500 MB could you also try as another test, creating a new scenario using the RA script, leave everything as is and compiling and seeing what the resultant size is.

The VideoTS folder is 4.24gig that's why i don't get what i'm doing wrong to make it go up to 7.5gig why i created the ISO. Any Ideas?

hey jed,
well its just a thought but after updating your ifos (try Eyes`Onlys', method (here) (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=63841) )
create a new folder on the hard drive you have created all your files on and call it (example only) JED_FINAL.
drag the VIDEO_TS folder into this new folder, and when you use imgtools, set the source directory to the JED_FINAL folder.
let me know if it works

O.K. Moving to a different directory after doing ifoupdate worked. Question WHY?
I haven't done the PGC2 part yet i just compiled it from the reauthorit script but the weird thing is that the iso plays the main movie and the rest of the dvd fine unlike the first time i did it. Do i still need to do the PGC2 edit bit?
If so in your firt post you said to delete the dummy cell for VTS_02_PGC_02 should i delete that in the scenario editor or from the track window in bottom left or both?

jel

glad to hear it worked :D
what it was doing was including all the other info that was in the folder you had the VIDEO_TS folder in, in with the ISO image as well.

If so in your firt post you said to delete the dummy cell for VTS_02_PGC_02 should i delete that in the scenario editor or from the track window in bottom left or both?
no just delete the chapter/cell for PGC_2 in the scenerio editor window then recreate that pgc with the scenes/cells from PGC_1 from the 'track' tab in the lower right hand corner as we discussed earlier.

good luck with it all.

Greets!
I tried backing up my moulin rouge (disc1).
1. The big3 way
Results: The extras were in the final result but when selected from menu it went directly to main movie
After trying about everything..
2. Nero recode way
Results: Absolutely the same (seems like recode is as dumb as me and can't deal with this movie)
Your backups turned out ok ?
Thx

jed

Yeah my backup turned out fine using the big3 method just make sure you select the right PGC or just use dvdshrink if you don't mind about quality that'll do everything fine if you can't figure out the big3 way

@ahgc
Results: The extras were in the final result but when selected from menu it went directly to main movie
hmmmm...only reason i can see for this would be
a)incorrectly updating ifos that you didnt re-encode or
b)incorrectly re-authoring your project so that the menu buttons will point to the wrong vts set....or
c)none of the above but something even stranger still ;)
if you can detail the process you took, we may be able to help you locate the error
cheers

Thx for your reply
a) tried updating only the ifos that i reencoded and tried reencoding everything and updating everything (except video_ts.ifo of course)
b)used reauthorist to create my scenarist script. on some attempts i tried changing some layout options in scenarist etc but to no avail
c) probably!
Isn't it strange that recode makes the same "error" as me using the big3?

jel

well i'm totally confused then...
if you get a chance can you load up ifoedit, open the original Video_TS.ifo from your 'virtual disc' in daemon tools, select dvd play, and navigate to your extras (where on your back-up it now goes to the main movie), and take note of everything that ifoedit tells you as it plays - titles, vmg, etc, then exit and check which vtses relate to the titles played.
then do the same with your backed-up files and post both results.
cheers

I'll probably only have free time to do that 2morrow but thanks for the tip though. I will let you know of the outcome.
Thx :)
