Could someone point me to the program that analyses an avi file and tells you the exact codec version and encoding parameters used for the encode. I want something much more specific than gspot. I've seen such a program mentioned on the forum but tried several searches and couldn't find the thread again.

ffdshow is able to show many settings, like b-frames, qpel and gmc...

You could also try Sigma's AviCheck 4.06.172.00 (Which is the newest).

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any tools that will tell you the exact version of the codec used!

For anyone interested, I found a Japanese tool called MMname2 that will tell you the exact codec used to encode an avi file. There is no English version but it is pretty simple to use. Just drag and drop the avi file into the program and it will give the exact codec details. The program can be found at:

P.S. winrar will decompress lzh files.
