Hi,

I usually use avi_io with Win98 and VfW drivers. I've had great results with this setup. I recently upgraded my machine to XP Home Edition and the new drivers for my video card only support WDM. Just for kicks, I ran avi_io under XP and the WDM drivers and to my surprise, it ran great.

Any idea why this is? I thought avi_io was VfW only? I'm certain I didn't install any video wrappers under XP.

My XP setup is on a drive that is NTFS, which doesn't have the 4gb single file restriction as in FAT32. Will I be able to capture to a single large (40+ gb)avi file using avi_io under XP? I haven't tried it yet but since this isn't a true WDM setup, I'm not sure if I'll be able to.

Thanks.

I've captured 25gb movies using XP Pro with an NTFS file system. That's the largest so far, but I assume it can go as big as you have space for.

The vfwwdm wrapper is included in WindowsXP by default so you don't need to install it.
