I've have for a while tried out different backup solutions and there is one thing that has occured to me. CloneDVD is the only program who can completely remove extras from a DVD (while recode use a single frame when removing an extra). Why is that? Is clonedvd more sophisticated in this matter?

When loading Nero Recode 2 I get the error message "NERO API required but not found, please re-install NeroVision Express using the installer". The program then seems to work fine, but I haven't tried it yet. Anyone else had this problem? Re-installing does not help.

I presume you are keeping menu's, so if you are then there's a few programs and methods that can get rid of all the extras

InstantCopy, IntervideoDVDCopy, DVDStripper, MenuEdit, Ifoedit, DVDShrink can all give you menu+movie with no extras

I had this problem when my Nero 6 was not installed correctly anymore (upgraded from 6.0 to 6.3). Reinstalling only Nero Vision did not work. The way I did get it to work again is to uninstall all Nero applications and do a clean install of Nero 6.3. Verify that this is working and then install Nero Vision Express 2.

DVDRFreak, thanks I'll try that!

What I was wondering wasn't really how to keep menus and removing extras, it was why clonedvd can do a selective removal which completely removes the extras while nero recode and dvd shrink cannot completely remove the extras. Why do you have to replace the removed extra with a still frame in recode?

Dvd might have a complex navigation structure - commands jumping from one part of the disk to another. If some parts of the disk are removed then in "best" case these commands will cause playing of wrong parts of the disk and in worst case players will refuse to play the disk. Easiest way is to replace deleted parts with "blanks" - you don't see them and at the same time disk structure remains valid. Of course there is an alternative: check all commands everywhere on the disk (all program chains in ifo files all buttons in vob files) and modify them accordingly to changes you do to the disk. I wonder if clonedvd does this. Don't have it to check what it does to ifo files. Anyone knows?
