you will need a tv capture card installed on your pc...... i recomend the hauppauge wintv pvr 250, which will capture the sky channel you want to record in dvd format so you can burn it on a dvd-r disk, and then watch it on your dvd player.

I have a extra ariel running from my sky box to my pc ( you no the ariel that you plug in to the back of your tv ?? well 1 of them that runns from the back of your sky box, to were ever your pc is).

all you need to do then is plug the ariel in to the pci slot on your pc were the capture card is......... use a programe called sage tv to watch and record the programes you want to record.

Yes, but that method is a simple Analog to digital capture.

He meant a better way to transfer HDD recordings to PC.

Someone did it, they opened the case and removed the HDD and then connected it to their PC. It's a quite difficult operation and opening the decoder means trash the warranty (if something goes wrong).
The recorded files are MPEG 2 Transfer Stream or maybe Program Stream, no matter, just use Pvastrumento or ProjectX to demux and threat it like a custom source (if DVD compilant, just remux it using the DVD auhtoring program you like, else try to transcode or reencode to DVD size and resolutions ... there are 1000 ways).

Another method to record sky onto PC is buying a DVB-S card with Common Interface slot, and buy the right Cam (example I've an AstonCam for Seca). Insert your smart card and you can digitally record anything you want.

There are just some problems related to signal errors or instability of current drivers ... maybe next cards will be more stable than mine VP 1030 (old model) :(

Will this work with just an ordinary sky box?

Good trick, especially when its considered that the content is recorded onto the HDD in the Sky box as transmitted - ie encrypted. How did this person decrypt the content after transferring to a PC?

Another good trick. Where does a person find a CAM that is compatible with Sky's videoguard system?

not going to get into a dicussion over this, but most things are possible if you have the right tools, and they are out there, you just have to have a clue about what you are doing.
no tricks involved
