When i rip my movies off the dvd disk it only rips at like 4x max and i have a 16x dvdrom on a dual 3ghz xeon i use dvddecrypter and smartripper am i doing something wrong? are there any faster drives out there?

This have been answered many times.
- Check udma is enabled
- Some recent drives won't at any cost rip faster, no matter the read-speed ; factory lock against piracy.
- 4x is not so bad ; and it makes me think you udma certainly is enabled, otherwise it should rip at 2x. My mistake.
- Some DVDs can be ripped at 12x, others at 2x, it depends on the content...
I'm sorry it won't help you much, but you now know you're not alone.

The brand and model of your drive would be helpful. There is a possibility that there is "hacked" firmware available that allows more than 4x ripping.
