I know this doesn’t pertain to technology in anyway, and I apologize if im in violation of any rules by posting this thread. I just saw LOTR3 and I would have to say the with out question it is the best movie I've seen in Years! I am a die hard Matrix, and Star Wars Fan, but Return of the king by itself (in my opinion) crushes the whole matrix trilogy. Like I said before, the best movie to hit the big screens in years. While watching it, every time you think you've been overwhelmed, it blows you away even more. Never before have I sat in one spot for 3 1/2 hours and actually forgot that I was in a theater.

I second that. LOTR has definitely won the 'trilogy competition'. I'm already looking forward to the SEE.

Seen Return of the King yesterday. Very good (except maybe the ending, the Hobbits looked like they were going to kiss each other... :D ).

The spider scene is to die for. :rolleyes:


But I can't really say which of the LOTR favorites would be my favorite.
My immediate answer is "all of them". :)

Yup, this third one didn't really "do" it for me. Excellent trilogy as a whole, but the third one had long bits that should have been shortened and short bits that should have been extended etc. Think I enjoyed the 2nd film the most overall.

Still a very good flick though,

Wait for the extended version, probably available next fall/winter. It was a good movie, but I think they kinda rushed the scenes after the Ring was destroyed. I hear that in the extended version, that we see what happens to Sauruman, but I don't know what else they took out for the theatre. (in the trilogy, it took about 1/3rd of the last book to wrap things up), whereas in the movie, they really skimped a bit.

Still, it was a good ending to the trilogy.

The end really didn't do it for me either. I mean I think that they probably could have ended it much sooner. I saw it on opening night and it was like 3:30am by the time the movie was actually over. I liked it a lot though, I just thought the ending could have been better. A lot of people complain about ending in movies like the matrix because there is a lack of resolution but ROTK had way too much IMO. Other than that I loved it :).

Don't forget, it's a movie about maybe the most famous Fantasy trilogy there is. Unfortunately Tolkien takes pages and pages to end his 3rd book. So far Jackson still rushed over it. Nevertheless Hugo Weaving (=Elrond = Agent Smith) as father of the groom :angry:

The director (Jackson) admits he deviated from the book at the end. The scenes he shot about Saruman were removed from the movie because he felt they took away from the movie. The end of Saruman will be on the extended dvd but is not based on the book. Oh well. Everything can't be perfect.

I have part 1 & 2 still on my hd as a vob, but I am looking forward to getting the box set with 3 & all extended scenes! Hopes they are all included...

For all you old geezers that still remember going to watch Star Wars for the first time. Thats how this trilogy was for me and all the younger people of my generation. It's one of those movies that when I'm old I can say, yeah that movie was the best thing that I saw when I was a teenager.

I thought the ending was drawn out, I was like "Oh a fade to black, time for credits..... No!"

I did like the way the credits were done though, looks like I won't be doing those at quant31.

Overall, good movie. The hobbit scenes as mentioned above did look a bit suss. As I sa it the first available session the cinema was filled with people who really appreciated LOTR. A lot of people clapped when Legolas took done that Elephant thing.

Best out of the three movies, slightly edging TTT.

That aimed on me, I just was thinking of the great trilogies of the last years: Star Wars (episode I/II/III (yet to come, sigh)), Matrix and LOTR.

For me Matrix was still a total catastrophy in the end, but that's just my opinion. I'm looking forward to SW Episode III, I hope Lucas does better this time. I love the first Star Wars trilogy and the second one just can't compete so far.

About the other movies you mentioned: They were done much earlier and aren't such a battle of special effects and I'd never dare to compare something such religious (:D) like The Godfather with these newer movies. I never liked Alien, though.

Yes, I know what you mean...

But Ive learned to measure movies a other way !!!

Taking only the story, music and the "art" of filming and playing into account, and forget all this computer effects...

Because even the best special effects will look "funny" in some years !!!

At their release they where amazing, but now they look more like comedy !!! :D

It will be the same with MATRIX and LOTR... ;)

But sure, both will be known as milestones in cinematic arts !!!

Great trilogy; I still think the first part was the best one - the first part of the Tolkien's novel was the best read, too - but the third part comes very close.

Anyone else who hated the 'dwarf jokes'?

Apart from that, I found that the parallel telling of Merry and Pippin's story didn't quite work out: The Treebeard-story kind of stuck out as far as I'm concerned (maybe the Treebeard-puppet featured a too cute look?). Still, the SEE again improved the feel of part 2 a lot. I'm so looking forward to the next SEE.

I always had a good laugh when I saw the original Star Trek TV series :D
I saw it in the mid-eighties as a child and always thought the guys make fools of themselves.

oh man! I totaly loved it. The begining weirded me out a little - I totaly didn't expect Sméagol to turn bad that quickly. When Legolas was killing the elephant, when Aragon found that army of ghosts I was completly amazed. Of course everyone wants something different from a movie so I guess I'm just lucky this one delivered 100% for me. When the 2 hobbits where lying on the rock surrounded by lava I nearly cried, I really thought they were dead or dying.

When the spider showed it's sting behind Frodo's back and then Frodo turns around and the sting disappears everyone in the theater started to laugh thinking it's one of those "it's behind your" :rolleyes: comic scene but of course the next second... and everyone just gasped - Aha...AAWWW :scared: - now if that's not great timing I don't know what is. And I really didn't expect Golem to be a biting kind of guy. :devil:

Hell yeah. I am getting the box set next year, it'll be the pride of my collection.

Do poor, old Tolkien that favour and read the books, don't forget to read the hobbit before and you'll see even much more wonder, I promise.
