DVD Writer

I have purchased a DVD +/- R/RW drive from Maplin (main reason being cost at £89) which is working fine using Nero 5.5 to write DVD,s. Has anyone else bought this drive? Windows XP recognises it as DVDRW IDE1004 and Nero finds it as well. I am a bit worried about possible problems using other writing software as I do not know if the drive/software need to match. Can anyone help?
