View Full Version : iuVCR makes 30.078 fps AVI files. What should I do with it ?

I just captureed a tape with iuVCR and told it to capture 29.97 fps. I set Masters stream to audio in the settings so I suspects it has something to do with that.
My question is what do I do next. DVD needs 29.97 fps, so how do I convert 30.078 fps to 29.97 fps. Should I just feed it to TMPGenc as it is or should I use AVIsynth to change the frame rate ?

I just did another capture and the result was 29.971 fps. So it's still 0.001 fps off.
Capture is in HufYUV using BT878 based card

How are you looking at the frame rate? Maybe it's that program that's wrong. Usually they just average it, so who knows about that...
I use iuVCR to capture, and it always seems to do fine for me. I just capture, and feed through tmpGENC like you said, and burn that to the DVD, works fine.
I really don't think that there's too much of a difference between 29.971 and 29.97.

I use VirtualDub to look st the frame rate. Well, I'm gonna try to encode it and see what happens

By default iuVCR locks the frame rate to the audio stream, which is the best option in my opinion. The small difference you have can simply be ignored. It's the result of a few framedrops or video and audio clocks not matching exactly. So there's nothing to do; just use the file as if it were exactly 29.97 fps. You won't notice the difference.

Thanks that's what I thought. I just want to know what would be the better thing to do:
a. write AViSynth script and call ChangeFPS(29.97)
b. not bother with AVisynth and just go straight to TMPGenc ?

I vote for b.
Of course you could use AviSynth to improve the video, e.g. to remove phase shift and noise.

I like VirtualVCR's Resample Audio Dynamically feature. It will keep your frame rate fixed at 29.97. If the video and audio clocks don't match, it dynamically will duplicate or delete audio samples to keep the audio rate fixed.

Yes I tried it and it's great. However the big problem with VirtualVCr is that it creates AVI files with internal offset.
In other words there is a delay between audio and video streams.
This is random, sometimes there is a delay sometimes there isn't.
You can find out what the delay is with AVI Offset Calculator

Howevet this is not always acurate. AVI Offset Calculator will report the delay even in cases when there isn't any.
So the only way to find out for sure is by watching the video. This can be tricky. It's too time consuming to watch every video and look for the delays.
If this problem could be ever fixed VirtualVCR would be the best video caturing application.
