I recently a few weeks back bought the hauppauge wintv pvr 250, after i had installed and set up everything, i ran the software which allows you to watch tv on my computer (wintv 2000)= like the divx player.

Everything would seem to be working ok, but after a certain amount of time my computer would lock up and freeze!! ... if i was lucky i could record (watch) a tv chanel for round about an hour, or on most accasions 10 min. It has been doing this since day 1, and it has never fully worked with out freezing my computer, by recording a chanel, or even with out recording,

I have been in touch with hauppauge technical support and they told me to update my graphics card + sound etc and get the latest version of direct x9, which i have done......... But even after doing all of this my computer freezes up everytime.

I have tried all most everything that i can think off, i have even upgraded from windows 2000 to xp, uninstalled every other programe on my computer (antivirus software etc) and still have had no luck.

The graphics card i have installed on my pc, is the rage 128 pro (32MB) apparently this card is as old as dirt, does having a high qaulity graphics card make any kind of diffrence when it comes to capturing ???????? considering buying a new card to see if it works, but i ave all ready spent aload of money on the pvr recorder, and i am not to sure if buying a new graphics card will make a diffrence ????

any help you can give me is most apreciated !!!!!!! the last thing i want to have to do is sell it on ebay.

here is my computer specs

AMD Athlon(tm)XP 1800 +
1.54 GHz
769 MB ram
rage 128 pro (ATI graphics card 32 MB)
785904 physical memory.
VIA AC"97 Audio controler

Have you tried chipset drivers for your motherboard?

No worries.
Downloaded WCPUID from here (http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html) and run it. It should give you info on what motherboard you have amoung other things.

Click on view/chipset info.
Your chipset is listed on the left. You can go from there.

Like this. (http://members.boards.ie/the_edde/CPU.JPG)

this program will only give you info on the chipset in system. Once we know that we'll know exactly what to download;)

AMD Athlon(tm)XP 1800 +

According to your processor, I guess you'll probably need the VIA 4in1 Hyperion drivers (for all VIA chipsets). On the other hand, you could also have an AMD 761 chipset which would need the VIA 4in1 IDE drivers, but seperate AMD AGP drivers.

Try to change PCI slot the card is connected to.
