Hi!
I'd really like to rip my DVDs with 5.1 Dolby Sourround, but if i try, there are background noises in the ripped sound. There's a sweeping all over the sound. The sound is generally not very good. What is the problem? I tried to uncheck "Downsample" but there's no difference. I also highered the audio bitrate to 192 instead of 128, but nothing changed. Can you help me, please? It is very important to me!
Thanks for your help, guys!!
Yours, Simi Deluxe
PS: I hope you don't mind my bad english, my mother tongue's german!

Hi Simi Deluxe. Welcome to the forum.
I think from your post you are making SVCD's using MPEG 5.1 for the audio.
SVCD's cannot have Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.
They can have stereo MPEG layer 2 sound or MPEG 5.1
MPEG 5.1 and Dolby Surround are entirely separate entities.
Unfortunately very few DVD players support MPEG 5.1 so really you are better to stick with stereo. If you are lucky enough to have a MPEG 5.1 compatible player you will still need to double the audio bitrate to 384 for good results. However, as I say, the vast majority of DVD players only support stereo audio on SVCD.

Hi Nick!
Thank you for your prompt answer! You're right, I'm trying to make SVCD'S using MPEG 5.1
Your answer is not really what I wanted to hear :) because I've just bought a new soundcard with 5.1 sound for my PC, but as you say, I'll have to stay with stereo audio.
Thank you!

If you're doing the backups to play on your PC, you can do XviD backups with Dolby 5.1 (AC3) sound. The quality will be better than SVCD but they will not play back on standalone DVD players

Usually I'm trying to rip my DVD's to play them on my PC and on a standalone DVD Player. But I'd be interested in the possibility to backup my movies with Xvid and 5.1 sound. Which program do I have to use? Are there any tutorials on the net?
