Adding Subs to Retail DVD

i bought a dvd and for some reason the subtitles don't work on it, can i add subtitles to it after i rip it to my harddrive with dvd decrypter and then burn it again on another dvd? if so how would i go about doing this? and also is there a tool or way to join 2 subtitles?, because i downloaded subtitles for this movie but it was split into cd1 and cd2.

It's rare that a retail DVD would be badly authored in a way that subtitles don't turn on when you want it on. Have you played in a software player like PowerDVD and also your standalone player with same results?
