Thanks in advance for your patience and guidance,

I’ve recently started backing up my DVD collection with DVD2SVCD. I’ve had very nice results using the 4-pass VBR method, and I decided to do some experimenting with D2SRoBa. I got results that weren’t good at all: lines through the picture and the movie running at about ¾ speed. No big deal, seeing as how I was real happy with the results I was getting with 4-pass VBR anyway. Before I started a back-up project last night I went ahead and uninstalled CCE, just to be sure I eliminated any CCE settings that I wouldn’t be able to undo through CCE and DVD2SVCD (does that make sense?) I re-installed CCE, and tried a back-up last night using a tried-and-true 4-pass VBR guide I’ve used before, and my result was the same as my train-wreck one-pass experiment.

So, my question is: Should I have purged any CCE registry settings when I uninstalled CCE to start with a clean slate? Are there similar registry settings associated with DVD2SVCD I should be concerned with?

Happy holidays,

K

Is this a DVD you've previously had success with?
If not just find a DVD you've successfully backed up and do a test encode of one chapter. You can find out how in the Q+A if you're not sure.

If previously backed up ones work OK is there anything different about this one, eg are you trying NTSC2PAL, is the video interlaced etc?

I doubt this is anything to do with installation.

Thanks for the reply Nick,

Actually it is a movie I'd tried backing up before, and it did turn out okay; this time I was trying to create a back-up with subtitles. The first time I backed it up, I didn't make any adjustments for interlacing or NTSC2PAL and it looked fine. I'll have to go through the guide I've been using (DVD2DVD guide found at mr.bass.org) and double-check the settings I used.

Is there a guide that you've used and had success with?

To be safe definately remove the registry setting manually. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Custom Technology]

Try to follow this crappy guide to the letter with the same movie then report back (http://www.geocities.com/syzygydvd/help)

SyzygyTec - Thanks for the link to your guide. I will give it a go.

One question - n the DVD2SVCD Audio window, you recommend using the source audio. In the Frameserver window, you have "Use Resampled Audio" ticked. I was curious as to why.

Thanks,

Karl

Syzygytec,

I followed your guide to the letter. The picture turned out great, but the audio was out of synch, by about one-quarter second.

Hi,

I assume you used TMPGEnc DVD Author? Quote (the guide):
Add your audio file now under audio settings. If Encoded_audio_1.ac3 exists this is because a time delay correction was needed use this when it exists, otherwise there will only be Extracted_audio_1.ac3.

Encoded_audio_1.ac3 should have the correct time delay - can you confirm you used it?

Posting your dvd2svcd_log.txt file may help; so we can see if besweet was executed.

Regards,
Bob.

Thansk for the reply Bob.

I used DVD Lab. The only audio file generated was Extracted_audio_1.3. I've always used the source audio when backing up with DVD2SVCD.

Here is my dvd2svcd log:

It doesnn't seem that besweet was used.

Hi,

Besweet wasn't executed because according to the log: Audio1 delay: 0 ms.

Have you had this problem with any other discs?

Regards,
Bob

scruffyman

Bob,

No problems with any other discs. I just backed up a copy of "Miller's Crossing", just to see how it would look/sound, and so far I don't see or hear any problems, under than it was a little undersized. Was BeSweet supposed to execute even though I chose to use source audio?

Happy Holidays,

Karl

Not necessarily scruffyman.
Besweet sometimes executes when source audio is selected not to re-encode the audio but to add a slight pause at the start to correct synchronisation. Your logfile said an audio delay of 0 ms would be needed, therefore BeSweet did not execute.

There is a GUI available for BeSweet (see doom9 downloads) so it may be relatively straightforward to add the delay yourself but it would mean a bit of trial and error and possibly re-authoring several times with different delay settings until you get a result you're happy with.

Holiday greetings to all,

Over the holiday weekend I backed up three movies successfully, using the basic Mr. Bass DVD2DVD (multi-pass) guide (no subtitles). One thing I did that I had not done in a while was to use Internal Routines to rip the DVD. I have yet to try this with D2sRoBa.

I wonder if the folks who have posted the Forum with Scenarist problems are using internal routines, or if they are ripping the DVD to their HD first with Decrypter or SmartRipper. Or does it even matter?

Hi Scruffyman,

I have always used internal routines; it was recommended in something I read. Ripping with internal routines works fine with D2SRoBa (I've done it may times).

BTW can you please enable your PM (private messages).

Happy new year,
Bob

I agree, had problems with DVD Decrypter on a movie caused problems with Scenarist, redid it with internal routines, no problems. SS is a big pain, the automation was sure nice but I've left it behind for Maestro myself.

PS sorry scruffyman, I totally missed this thread's progression!

Thanks for the reply bobwillis. It seems like using Internal Routines adds two more hours to the the whole process, but that's not an issue for me.

Not a problem. Thanks for taking another look syzygytec. I'll probably give D2SRoBa another try with Internal Routine ripping and see how it looks and compare it to 5 pass VBR. 5-pass might seem pretty excessive to a lot of folks, but the results look great. I think your guide is very "user-friendly"; I'll probably refer to it when I give D2SRoBa another go.

Happy New Year!

Nick

Scenarist has caused a fair few problems despite the funky automation.

It looks promising for the next release of D2S to support a series of freeware tools to multiplex, submux, author and (if desired) generate an image for DVD. This will add flexibility and reinstate click-and-go operation for those like syzygytec and myself, who have chosen to author manually due to these teething troubles.

I look forward to it with bated breath.

By the way syzygytec, I just checked out the latest version of your guide; I really like the template set-up you've included. Were you not having any success using Scenarist with D2SRoBa?
