Me and my mate are arguing over this point... HE says a dvd loaded with mp3 tracks will play in a car mp3 player or a cd player that plays mp3 files... HOWEVER I say that this is'nt the case as the discs are different and the players will not read the DVD disc regardless of the files on it... please help us to sort this out.

You're right / your mate is bonkers.

A CD player (including a car CD deck) cannot read DVD disks.

The question of content doesn't even come into play; as far as the CD player is concerned, there is nothing there (the DVD might as well be a circular piece of cardboard).

I know that you know what you are talking about and obviousely I am a bit wet behind the ears but I still think that it has more chance of playing than the piece of cardboard you talk about as at least the disc will go into my player.
I am new to dvd media recording so I wasn't sure thank you for your response but I am now not going to live it down all bloody night at work
Cheers

Perhaps you are using the wrong size cardboard? It has to be some of the really thin stuff. If you have the time, a very thin piece of wood would also work about as well.
