I posted this message earlier, but under a different subject. Now that I have more info, I wasn't sure that original subject would attract the correct experts. Here we go.

I convert all my AVI files to MPEG using CCE and have an AC3 audio stream for each created with a combination of steps, however the final AC3 is created using Soft Encode. I author my DVD in Scenarist and write it out to a .DVD file. When I play it in my stand alone I get some pixelations (multi-colored 3/4" blocks) in places and stuttering of sound occasionally. Sometimes the pixelation blocks happen and then later the sound briefly cuts out although the sound cut off always seems to happen during or after the pixelation happens. I never seem to loose sound sync with the video though. I was about to just accept this as it happens only in certain sections, however then noticed on a PC with WinDVD 5 it will stop completely in these sections where the stand alone seems more acceptable.

My source AVI file is an NTSC 16:9 1.7778 23.97 video source with AC3 sound.

The AC3 is extracted using VirtualDubMod, then the extracted file is run against AC3Fix for good measure. HeadAC3 is used to convert to WAV and Sonic Soft Encode 1.0 is used to convert to a more compliant AC3 file. Tried BeSweet before but that caused my DVD's to completely lock in the stand alone units.

The original AVI file does not have any pixelation blocks or audio cut outs.

The CCE converted MPEG2 video file is flawless and has no problems either.

When I look at the mux_data folder for creating the DVD, the VOB file containing the movie shows the pixelation and sound problems as then so does the final CD. Originally thought it might be a media issue, however since it's also an issue with the files created in the Scenarist working folder, looks like a Scenarist problem.

Anyone know what's going on here? Is something happening during the multiplexing of the video and audio? I get no errors during the Layout Editor processing of the DVD file.

Thanks.
