I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me. I am trying to rip a 45 min DVD with LPCM audio onto 1 CDR. I seem to rip the file OK and it runs on the computer I rip it on, but when I burn it to a CDR and play it from the same computer or another computer it will either lock up or the counter will move with nothing happening.

I am using Gordian Knot 0.28.6.2 and have installed the update, codec pack and using DIVX 5.1.1.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for posting your logs!

Could be many things. I doubt it's specifically related to GKnot though.

Could be the burnt disc is a coaster. I find that many, many discs are crappy for compressed movies. Usually, if I fill up a CD with lots of small files or 'normal things' (MP3s, data, etc), I don't have much of a problem. However, when I burn a single, large file taking up the whole disc (a 700MB DivX file), then I get a lot more coasters.

Two of the brands this happens the least with me is TDK, and of course, Taiyo Yuden. With these brands, my coaster rate with DivX burning is about 1%. I've had that go as high as 35% for Memorex discs. Ugh. But like I said, when I burn 'normal' stuff, my coaster rate with either approaches 0%. I'm not sure what it is about burning one long, continuous file.

Regardless, when I burn DivX in Nero, I always do a verification read immediately after the write. For whatever reason, I won't get errors during the write, but it will occasionally give errors during the read on the verification. In that case, I trash it.

Also, when I watch the DivX on another computer, I always transfer the movie to a local drive first. A lot of cheaper CD-ROMs have trouble reading DivX movies on the fly, for whatever reason, especially laptop drives.

But could be anything.

Thanks for the reply colordog.

I tried what you said and still no luck. I did have to burn the disk twice though to get the data to be verified correctly. Thanks for the tip on TDK. I will try to buy those from now on.

I guess I'll try Autogordian Knot and see what happens.

Thanks again!
