OK, here it is.I re-encoded the extras to 352 x 576, but when scenarist has created the new ifo's they say 720 X 576.Now do i need to change that attribute myself using ifoedit and changing it by double clicking on the video: mpeg2 under title set and change it manually??

I ask this because powerdvd says its 720X576 , eve though the video stream is not, so im guessing even though the video is Half res power dvd is playing it back at full in which case the standalone will.

Secondly i got this message after scenarist finished compiling ..

I'm not a PAL user - but I do reencode extras at 352x480.

I do manually edit the scenarist script files to change all 720 to 352. I use IfoEdit to change the information in the VMG and in the VOB itself (although once I forgot to do it, but my DVD player didn't seem to care).

The No Audio stream warning is normal for the little dummy piece at the end of most extras these days, and same for the "DVD players have problems with this limitation" - haven't found a player that actually has problems eyt.

The Big 3 seem to create this little dummy piece from the end of the extra by sticking a "scene" in there - I normally go create my own little dummy from some fillers posted by one of the regulars around here - that way, they don't interfere with the extra, and you get a different VOB ID (which is usually true on the real disk).

I know how to change the info in the ifo with ifoedit, but how to you change it in the vob itself ? as i changed the res in ifoedit in the ifo files but powerdvd and the dvd player in ifoedit reckons the video is 704x576, even though if i open the vob in dvd2avi it says its 352x576.

Also seen as you are a person who encodes the extras to half res i was wondering as ive only done it once, whats the lowest bitrate you've used on half res extras ??
And what about subs, do they need resizing aswell ?? as the extras i done didnt have any subs.

I may not be saying it right, but I modify the resolution both in VIDEO_TS and in the VTS_00.IFO files. The actual video is already flagged as 352x480 by the encoding process, and the player makes it the right size. Changing both IFO files, I've never seen a problem with the video itself - only with subs....

I'm a little wierd the way I do the 352x480 - normally what I do is encode them all at Q:60 with smoothing, encode the main movie at Q:10 or Q:20, see how things fit together, then do multipass on the movie. It takes longer, but the end result is fairly pleasing (I also don't do this for a lot of movies). I have a beefy dual athlon, and just let stuff encode overnight - then the next day, I look it over, make any changes, then do the reencode - then I can author.

I've done a couple of extras with subs, and I've left the subs 720x480 and made sure that I didn't modify their size in the scenarist scripts - they seem to play OK in my players, although in ZoomPlayer (I think it was Zoomplayer), the sub gets cut in half and rescaled. FOrtunately (or not) most extras don't have subtitles.
