View Full Version : Capturing Using Spill Drive in VDub Gives Async Audio

Hi I've tried every possible I can think of to try to solve this, and I decided to post before I delete my whole capture and hang my head in defeat. I recently switched to the btwincap drivers and thus started capturing with VDub for the first time. I read in the Capture Guide here on Doom9 that I had to set up a spill drive since avi (at least the guide states) files can't get larger than 2GB. So I set up a spill drive and did the capture but now when I'm trying to process the video (deinterlace b4 encoding) I noticed that the audio is out of sync. It seems that whenever there is a new segment the audio-video sync changes, and thus I can't set a delay at all to fix this. Another problem I think is the fps, where I tried capturing at 29.971 fps and when I load the first part of the movie with 10 segmented parts, it gives me a fps of 30.014. My guess is that some of the segments have higher fps and some have lower, and that's why I get the audio out of sync.

On another note, the second half of the capture also had 10 segments but the fps were actually closer to the norm, at 29.968 fps. This part doesn't have any problems whatsoever with sync.

It's just hard for me to find a solution because having the audio out of sync makes it virtually impossible to cut out commercials and hope to preserve the right audio. Any suggestions? Thanks

Switch to Virtual Dub VCR - special mod. with improved capture.
It handles framedrops more intelligent (instead changing fps. it changes audio samplerate).

I actually think that I did use Virtual Dub VCR for that capture, and then I used the regular Virtual Dub for another capture the next night and I think that capture came out all right. I'll do a test capture again and see if I see a big difference between the two.

And btw, you think that my capture with the messed up fps is hopeless?? :(

You can change framerate of AVI with apropriate small util, or even with Virtual Dub itself. But then must resample audio, or perform timestretch to keep it sync - or even can try to fix async with some timestretch...
But it's not easy job
