Progressive delay between Video and Audio after Re-muxing

Hi everybody.

First of all, I am french and I wasn't a good student during English courses, so excuse me for my possible mistakes! ;)

I searched a similar topic in the forum but found nothing!
I read many times the guides using IfoEdit and Reencoders like TMPG in the site Doom9, and tried to make a back-up of one of my DVDs.

My problem is that I have a progressive delay between video and audio when I play the main movie that I reencoded with TMPG.

That happens after adding the new video stream with IfoEdit (Re-Mux option checked)

The Movie is PAL 25 fps 16/9, Interlaced, 720*576 of course.
My GOP is standard (1,4,2) (IBBPBBPBBPBBPBB)
I used VBR 2-passes
Average Bitrate 5280 kbps with 6100 kbps max
I forced the I frames with the TmpgTemplate.txt file obtained with IfoEdit (right before using TMPG).

The async symptoms appears after playing the movie with a DVDplayer (PowerDVD for example): the more you watch the movie (and wait), the more the video stream is late (or audio is in advance).

I do not want to use ReMPEG2 because the quality, and CCE seems to me a little bit expensive for me!

Hi,

From what I get of your story, it is that you have a Mpeg-2 video file that is not in sync with your audiofile.

There are two wonderfull programs out there that can easily solve your problem.

1. VirtualdubMod (capable of importing Mpeg 2 streams)
2. HeadAc3he

Both can be found at the download setcion of www.doom9.org

At first you load the audio-file into Head AC3. Look at the box with start frame and end frame. In that box you can see the length of the audio-file.

2nd load your videofile in VirtualDubMod and move the slider beneath the picture to the utmost right. Beneath you can see the timer of the video which gives the exact length of the video.

For example say that your audio length is 1 hour 46 min 10 sec and 700 milliseconds. Your video is 1 hour 46 min 10 sec and 600 milliseconds. You must now set the delay of the audio file to -100 ms in HeadAC3he and convert the file. After that you have a sync audio and video file.

I'd just like to make a side remark to your messages. It's no longer needed to go the way of TMPEGenc Re-encoding and IFOEdit re-muxing for DVD backups... get DVDShrink and all your problems will go away!
Also, Nero recode 2 will do the trick.

You mentioned Nero Recode,
this will make the file compatible, and in your case also synced,
but i wouldn't recommend using Nero Recode,
because it's not as "specialized" as, for example, TmpgEnc...

Actually, I like DVDshrink better. However, Nero Recode does one nice thing that DVDshrink doesn't do yet. It gets rid of the layer break in the recoded DVD. It's rather strange to find a layer break on a DVD-5 but I've seen it in action - slight pause and all that...

but i'm only recommending to other viewers of this thread to avoid Nero's Recode, because there are much better ways to fix things...

I had the same issue when in "Gop Structure" Output interval of sequence header was set to 0.
Settin to 1 solved.
