Right, first of all I haven't tried xvid 1 yet but I read doom9's guide for it so pardon me if I say something stupid...

I noticed from the guide that there's a Zones section. I think that it is an excellent idea and a really great step forward from the Credits tab of earlier versions.

Now then, I normally mux my stuff into ogm and when I can I use chapters (I use vdubmod for this) (and I use mplayer for playback). Now the problem is that chapters don't always start with an I frame meaning that if I seek through chapters I arrive at an I frame following the chapter's timestamp. Of course I could enable seeking to non-I frames but that is a rather crude solution. As far as I can see from doom9's guide the Zones section allows you to basically define points where the codec must create an I-frame (in the sence of this post) by using the Force Keyframe option and leaving other options unchanged and setting weight to 1. So this way I don't have to go through the stats file manually setting keyframes after first pass.

I wonder if the developers of xvid could add an import button that would allow import of either a chapters file (in the ogg format) or somekind of other list of where the codec has to create I-frames. Of course in the case of a chapters file the list will be not frame numbers but time stamps.

Look here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66268). It will work as soon as the force keyframe behavior is corrected ( so wait beta 3.0 or take an instant build )

ahh yes, I knew I would post something stupid... :D

still it would be nicer if it was built in to the codec setup
