I'm currently still in the process of approaching different ways to backup certain eps from my original Buffy & Angel DVDs. My most recent attempt aims at DVDlab and Ifoedit, I did it like this:
reauthor the original DVD with DVDshrink to get 4 eps with 2 audio, 2 subtitle streams each and no menus whatsoever
import those into DVDlab 1.4 beta, joining vobs of each titleset
design a simple still menu with 4 buttons each of which jumps to the corresponding ep
used ifoedit to edit the subpicture stream status to make em both visible according to 2Cool's guide 'Creating a Multi-audio and Subtitle Menus using DVD Lab'
The compiled DVD runs fine, I can select any episode from the menu BUT I do not have more than 1 audio stream to select from during playback even though the second audio stream is in the vob. I'm sure of this as the vob joined by DVDlab is of the same length as the two vobs done by DVDshrink. So there was no demultiplexing done by DVDlab.
IMO there are two possible explanations for this behavior:
As it turns out DVD Decrypter mysteriously added a third subpicture stream that's physically not there to the ifos when ripping the complete DVD in File Mode. It must be DVD Decrypter since both DVD Shrink and DVD2ONE show this additional stream and they also carry it with them during reauthoring. Result: I end up with ifos that point to a non-existing third subpicture stream.
Yet, upon playback both reauthored versions run flawlessly with two audio and two subtitle streams. When I select the third subtitle no subpicture is shown.
DVDlab either carried on this bug or messed up the ifos by itself when compiling the DVD. Cause apart from the additional subtitle stream, the video_ts file only shows one audio stream whereas the corresponding vts_01_0.ifo shows both audio streams. Plus their stream status is exactly as the one in the ifos generated by DVDshrink.
So how come the video_ts does not reference the second audio stream and what can I do to get this stream played back? In case you wanna take a look at my ifos please donwload the small zip file from my page (http://chetwood.netfirms.com/angel.htm). Thanks.
