Signature Block Change

New to this forum, but I am confused about the signature block. Why when you change it does it have to change that block in every previous post you have done? I have several pretty good quotes regarding computers, movies, music, and life in general. I would like to be able to post once with one. Maybe change it post another bit of wisdom "with" another thread especially since I am generally unable as yet to post wisdom "in" my thread, and add some variety to the posts I do make. Is this possible?

your signature is one field in the user database. If you change it, all your posts will also be changed (actually the signature of those posts). Just imagine if there was a signature per post.. it would end up using even more space in the database and it is already huge as it is.

It's actually an advantage that it stores it globally, as it allows me to maintain my recommended settings.
