View Full Version : Another failing layout in Scenarist

Hi all!

I read several posts about the Layout Failure message in Scenarist when using DVD2SVCD in DVD2DVD mode. However, no one seems to have come across my error. It must have to do something with the subtitles overlapping each other, but I don't know how to fix this.

I am using Scenarist 2.7, DVD2SVCD 1.2.1 build 3 (latest), CCE 2.67 SP trial and D2SRoBa 3.0.8. And ow yes, I am using AutoFitCD 1.5 as well (Lanczos manually set). In CCE 2.67 SP trial I set the template to RB/DDogg's settings. I noticed that the framerate was set to 30 (frames per second). My source is 25 frames per second (PAL). Could that be it?

I tried the ac3fix, but no errors came to the surface. Same problem.

Below is the DVD2SVCD log and the Scenarist message window log.

I hope anyone can reveal to me what went wrong here.

Somewhere in the Message Window of Scenarist I found this:

Info Creating DVD Files
Warning Sub-Picture (stream 1 in Track "Encoded_Video_CCE_PAL-t") is across scene boundary at 01:49:18;23
Warning Sub-Picture (stream 2 in Track "Encoded_Video_CCE_PAL-t") is across scene boundary at 00:28:29;21
Warning Sub-Picture (stream 2 in Track "Encoded_Video_CCE_PAL-t") is across scene boundary at 01:49:18;23

Maybe that has something to do with it, I don't know.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thnx for the great job on DVD2SVCD, AutoFitCD en D2SRoBa !!! Excellent software!

I started doing some research by analysing the originally ripped DVD files. Appears that VTS_01_1.VOB, the first file of the main movie, is soundless and starts somewhere in the middle of the movie. At the end of that file I see the 20th Century Fox intro which a movie of that company usually starts with. It seems like the mixed up the video in a way. When playing the original DVD, all seems to be fine.

Can this DVD file structure be the cause of the failure I experience? The extracted ac3 sound starts with the drums accompanying the 20th Century Fox intro.

Anyone somewhat clarifying thoughts about all this?

It must be DVD2DVD flu season. I just got the exact same error for the first time.

Same setup as you. I'll do a few experiments and see if I can root out the problem. I am using the latest D2SRoBa 3.10 and was using 3.0.8. I am going to try a quick run without D2SRoBa.

I was trying to backup Minority Report and ripped the movie in file mode before running D2SRoBa and DVD2SVCD. When running the first VOB file (1 GB) of the movie in PowerDVD I get no sound and the movie starts somewhere in the middle of the movie. The extracted ac3 sound however starts with the normal sound we are used to when the 20th century fox entertainment intro plays. Near the end of the 1 GB file of the first VOB the intro starts.

I don't think the movie was extracted wrongfully. I believe the DVD structure somehow plays the scattered movie parts in a particular order or something. Is this a common thing? Is there anything I can do about this? Ripping the DVD in IFO mode?

Not sure if you tried to play the actual VOB file, but this causes the kinds of problems you describe. You need to play a VIDEO_TS.IFO file created for that movie. Otherwise, the player is not properly initialized and the results are unpredictable.

As to the Scenarist problem, I could not recreate it using a clip of the movie. I ran two tests. The first was to rip chapter x from the movie and run it through the process. The result played fine with the subtitle. The next was to take the first three chapters and do the same. The results worked. So, I am not sure what more testing to do without ripping the whole thing and trying various tests. Very time consuming with a 3hour + movie.

Well....the story continues....

I tried another movie which has the video and audio in chronological order. When letting DVD2SVCD build it all in Scenarist I get the Layout Failure Message again.

Error Subpicture[1] (7:en100008.bmp.sp) and (8:en100007.bmp.sp) offset are overlapped (00:00:39;03-00:00:41;00) and (00:00:39;11-00:00:41;00)

No clue what it could be. Something wrong with overlapping subtitles. Seems like 2 different subtitles want the same place at a certain moment in the movie.
