I'm using DIF4U 1.4 to demux Star Wars Episode 1 (PAL). DIF4U suggests VOB-ID demuxing but as the Scenarist part of that method is too complictated for me I decided just to take angle 1 in PGC demux mode, this method worked for Episode 2 which has an identical structure. (The angles only affect the language the opening prologue is in).

Everything worked perfectly until I went to test the Scenarist output, the subtitles were completely out-of-sync, phrases from 20min into the movie were playing during the intro. I wen't back to my Demux folder and found that the first 124 subtitle bmps were missing. I demuxed again and the same thing happened. But when I tried demuxing by VobID the subs were there, only that when I did that ReAuthorist sets all of VTS1 (main movie) as a dummy and I can't continue.

During the second demux I copied some of the info VobSub was spitting out, the delays and offsets seem huge. Is this normal?

Welcome to the one fatal bug that I have shown Gabest (the author) several times and yet it seems he doesn't wish to have any further part in the development of this tool, so this isn't fixed. I really don't know what else to say. I've found this bug with another movie (Ghosts of Mars R1) and there was never any resolution. Subrip, on the other hand, has no issue with it, so that's going to be your alternate method I think.

Just my luck, is there a way to combine the .sst files that accompany the subtitles? As I said, in VobID Demux the subtitles are all there but they are spread across 2 folders with 2 seperate .sst files.

Also is there a guide detailing how to handle a VobID Big3 project? I've looked at a few on doom9.org but they're a bit sketchy.

just demux by PGC then run SubRip to get your subs out... there's a guide I belive if you need help..

Thanks, I'm running it now. Does it matter that the colours used in the subrip bmps are different to the vobsub ones? I used the Sonic Scenarist profile.

Yes.. you'll want to adjust the colors correctly...

if you check the subrip guide it tells the default colors for Scenarist.. (can't think of them off the top of my head)

I re-ripped them using the scenarist settings but they still look different.
