Hello everyone!

Im doing a backup of charlies angels 2 with all the extras including buttons. I've read and followed the button over video guide very pricisely.

The problem is that no buttons are selectable in the movie. The icon is there but you can't press it. When I open the vobs in menuedit it tells me that there are no buttons at all.

That leads me to the conclusion scenarist doesn't create any buttons.
The cell times are exactly like in the original.

Can anyone help me?

You have to manually create the buttons in scenarist and add the corresponding commands ofcourse

Maybe I'm missing something here but I already have added 5 buttons and used the commands i got from video_ts.ifo

That can be a problem sometimes. Mostly this happens when the button/sub is on the cell/chapter boundary. I also have ca2 demuxed on my HD. For all the buttons multiple subs are created. Some are very small in time.

So for example for button 1 I have subs, while I only have one button. So I'm gonnan manually adjust the sst files so that i only have one subs with the desired time.

What also is a problem is when a button starts before the chapter or cell in this case the button is not visible. In these cases you have to slightly shift them so that they start right after the chapter. And you also have to do this for your other streams ofcourse (since they contain dummies with the same timecodes)

I don't know how else to fix this, although it should be possible, because on commercial releases you see the same. I have this infinifilm title which exactly has this problem. The buttons that start before the chapter are not visible/selectable. Opening the file in menuedit also shows no buttons. Strange thing is that this is also the case on ther original. It's a little bit strange.

But the conclusion of this all: you an make it work, but it probably involves (lots of) manual work.

Thanx for your reply

I've already tried eperimenting with different start times for the buttons with no luck. I use only one sub and button for each extra. I opened the original vobs in menuedit and I can see the buttons, it's actually two buttons, one with a command and one up in the left corner with a 'no operation command'(I don't see the purpose for that). Anyway I've run out of ideas.

see what happens if you play your scenarist output directly (before putting it into the original structure). If the buttons show there it's a problem updating/merging. If they don't show then it's a scenarist problem. My guess would still be the start time though

Now I'm confused...

The buttons appear but when they do the video gets messed up. The whole screen turns blue except for the button.

Definetely wrong color mapping on the buttons. Set blue on selection etc to 0% and you should be fine.

YES!!

It finally worked...I changed the color mapping and experimented with the button times. I also noticed that I have to play the movie a while to get the buttons to appear.

:D Good for you.

Doing It myself right now. ADjusting those sub times is a painfull process ;)

@ dogleg
Congrats on the success!
i noticed in your screen capture that you set the command to LinkTailPGC, button=1 (as apposed to what menuedit tells us - button=0 )
did this cause any issues?
@ influenza
ADjusting those sub times is a painfull process damn straight it is!
@ both
i am having a similar problem as described originally by dogleg. i have adjusted the sst files and set the colour mapping correctly (well i think i have) and the subpics are visible in the remuxed video.
the problem i get is that the buttons are not selectable when viewed in WinDVD. also the video seems a bit messed up around here as well.
the only thing i can think of is that might have messed up in ifoupdate?!?!?!
should i select the 'copy audio and subpicture tables' function as well?
...this is doing my head in
thanks for any light you can shed on this
j
edit:
i set the start times of the button subs to correspond with the original start times (except button 2 which i set to the beginning of the chapter, as it originally starts before this) and set the end times to correspond with the last time of the multiple sub pics.
i think this was the right thing to do....

I did the same thing you did with the subpic times. I checed the original though and it seems that there are indeed multiple subs/buttons for each. .I don't know why, but I just leave it now, since I changed it already.

Fairly easy button commands BTW: set gprm14 to 4099/4100/4101 etc linktail pgc.

To answer your question if this causes any problems: i noticed in your screen capture that you set the command to LinkTailPGC, button=1 (as apposed to what menuedit tells us - button=0 )

I never experienced any problems with that. I don't even bother looking at the button number, I'll just leave it to the scenarist default.

@LinkTailPGC, button=1

I have never had any problems neither, (never done a button project before). :)

I have another question that doesn't belong to this section of the forum...anyway:

What commands are you using in your avs scripts for your extras?

I don't add anything extra and encode them as interlaced. They tends to get a little bit choppy.

Ahh...

Influenza i found a thread in the cce section where you discussed field order. I changed the flag to bottom field first and now they play fine. Do you prefer deinterlace or keep it interlaced?

I'm still not sure. I always deinterlaced, but am still experimenting with encoding interlaced.

well i finally got 'full throttle' working (with a LOT of messing around), so here is my tip for anyone trying this movie.
disclaimer: this worked for me on the r4 PAL version. if the NTSC or other regions are authored differently, dont blame me :D – although i am sure the approach would be similar.
as previously noted by Influenza, the subpics for the button commands, when demuxed are split into multiple subpics with very short duration, which wont work to well with BoV. Another problem is that a few of the subpics cross scene boundaries, and this is a BIG BoV no no.
so the easiest solution i found (i am sure there are alternative ways...but this worked for me) is to adjust your .sst files to alter the subpic start times to comply with button over video.
before you let ReAuthorist create the .scp file open up your .sst files in notepad – be warned this can be a time consuming PITA, particularly if you keep all 21 substreams (well there were on this version) because you have to alter both the 'normal' AND the 'forced' sst files for EACH substream....i recommend a good bottle of red wine to ease the pain...
okay, so heres an example of what your sst file should look like:

for button 1:
scene time start 00:21:51;17
scene time end 00:21:56;00

0021 00:21:51:21 00:21:52:07 VTS_04_VSUB_P1A1-00-English.forced_0021.bmp
0022 00:21:52:09 00:21:53:18 VTS_04_VSUB_P1A1-00-English.forced_0022.bmp
0023 00:21:53:20 00:21:55:04 VTS_04_VSUB_P1A1-00-English.forced_0023.bmp
0024 00:21:55:06 00:21:55:20 VTS_04_VSUB_P1A1-00-English.forced_0024.bmp

now you want to adjust it to look more lke this:
0022 00:21:52:09 00:21:55:20 VTS_04_VSUB_P1A1-00-English.forced_0024.bmp
and repeat for each 'button'
i will give you the button times i found to work but feel free to ignore them and work out your own.

Button 1:
00:21:52:09 to 00:21:55:20
Button 2:
00:39:40:17 to 00:39:44:23
Button 3:
00:54:31:14 to 00:54:35:24
Button 4:
01:08:59:11 to 01:09:03:21
Button 5:
01:11:02:11 to 01:11:06:24

so repeat for each substream, then open RA and generate your script, open up scenarist create your buttons etc, and if all goes according to plan you should have 5 perfectly working BoVs which take you to behind the scenes footage.

hope this helps

i gots a questions.
I'm doing Me, MySelf, and Irene and the concept should be similar.

my question is...
DoItFast4U creates all the subtitle streams, with the forced and nonforced subtitles ect. But the subs used by the forced are also in the nonforced. Should i removed them from the nonforced? Does ReAuthorist take it into account?

I have no clue. I always let Scenarist create the script, and then just readd teh subittles myself.

the way i would do it (not necessarily the right way :sly: ) is to load the non forced substream into the correct stream and load the forced subs into the following stream.
then i would use the 'forced' stream as a guide for which subs in your original stream you have to change to 'forced'. then simply delete the 'forced' stream altogether.
hope that made sense
j
edit:
btw RA takes this into account when creating the script. you only have to go through this process when manually adding subs.
