Hi,
i´ve captured from tv using VirtualVCR with Scheduler. Somehow my PC crashed and after resetting there´s a file with 19GB in size (which should be the capture data so far), but i cannot open it. VirtualDub tells me "cannot determine file type of xyz.avi". i tried videofixer and aviPreview, both keep telling me about problems opening the file. DivFix says, this is not an AVI file. is there a chance to recover the capture?
Thanks for help

It's probably possible if you have the patience:

thanks for that hint, i´ve managed to rebuild the file header in parts. unfortunately, the vDub-Hex-editor does not feature copy&paste, so this is a lot of typing. does anyone know a hex editor with copy&paste, that can open (and save) 19GB files? I tried HexEdit 2000/MX, that one creates a temporary copy in "C:\documents and settings\...", of course theres not enough free space. UltraEdit fails while pasting, or at least i think that it failed, after waiting 30min with and another 5min without harddisk activity. the other Editors i testet so far are restricted to files < 2GB or so, not very helpful. not finding a program would mean another 400 lines of typing HEXCode, so i´d be reeeaaallly thankful for any suggestion.
Thanks

finally, i messed it up. i tried so many different HEX editors just to realize that none of them is working properly. these tests include many "hard quits", i.e. ending the process with task manager. then i found out that biew (thx leak) does not work under win2000, so i wanted to copy the corrupt file to a win98 pc. guess what, copying failed. so i think i succeeded in destroying the file structure. completely :-)
hopefully, i won´t have that problem again, but if i do, i try biew again. thanks for helping me

Well, it works for me - one thing that you might want to do is call "mode con: lines=50" in a cmd.exe window before running biew... :)
