View Full Version : Codecs driving me nuts :-(

Hi everyone!

I have trouble with my codecs since they are not fully recognized by VirtualDub (maybe even not by other programs, but I couldn't check that now).
Beforehand I used to install Codec Packs to solve trouble with codecs, but because these packs even caused more conflicts I manually installed all the single codecs.
But VirtualDub doesn't list the DivX Pro 5.1, XViD, HuffYUV and some other codecs. DivX Pro is only listed if I install it with a codec pack, but HuffYUV doesn't register in VirtualDub, no matter what I do.
So I installed the programm MMComp View and it confirms that all codecs are properly registered!

What can I do to make VirtualDub aware of these codecs? I really need these codecs, especially HuffYUV which I even can't install manually since it says that it's missing the file "setupx.dll" when I rightclick the inf-file to install the codec.

Thanx for help!

Ok, I fixed the problem with setupx.dll now...this file is not a valid XP file, but it comes with installation of HuffYUV...a former damaged installation of HuffYUV seemed to cause a wrong path in the registry for inf-files to setupx.dll. Instead of setupx.dll I just had to put "setupapi" instead and then installation worked.

HOWEVER, VirtualDub still doesn't list it in the "Compression"-settings. In the device manager it is properly registered and MMComp View says the same.
What is suspicious is that "Your Uninstaller! 2003" reports HuffYUV as damaged installation and the ordinary Windows Uninstall programm (start menue---->settings---->software) has HuffYUV listed, but with now size information behind. Is that normal?

Any suggestions appreciated!! :-)

I don't know what's causing your problem, but VirtualDubMod 1.5.4.1 doesn't give me any trouble with those codecs. Whenever conflicts arise with my setup I just uninstall everything and reinstall the Gordian Knot rippack and codec pack.

Well I have the Gknot rip pack installed, but deinstallation of it and other components just doesn't fix it.
I think it's a small detail that I constantly overlook.
VirtualDubMod 1.5.4.1 doesn't show the codecs either. :-(

Can this be your problem?

Did you make sure all references to it are removed from the registry?
