View Full Version : How can I create one chapter from several?

I'm using vobedit and ifoedit to build dvds with multiple short movies on them. Even though the movies are very short, some of them have lots of chapters.
Since the movies come from different discs, there's no way I know of to make a menu for them. This leaves me with using the chapter numbers on my standalone. But with all those chapters, it's a pain to find the movie my kid wants to watch.
To simplify navigation on the standalone, I'd like to make one chapter per movie, or as close to that as I can get. Can these tools combine chapters like this? If not, what do I need?
Or, is there a tool that can build me a menu for the chapters in these VOBs?
It could also be that chapters aresn't the answer. Would making separate title sets make it easier to skip to the next movie? If so, how?

Do you have all your short movies residing in there own VOB? If so, you can use a DVD authoring program to import them all in and make a menu.
Authoring programs with 30 day full working trials to look into are DVD Lab and TMPGenc DVD Author (TDA).
The only thing about TDA is that if you so choose to import with VOBs, the VOBs must have their associated IFOs/BUPs with them. You must create new IFOs with IfoEdit for the ones you're going to use.
For the most part, this post is more appropriate in the DVD Authoring forum than here since you already would have your movie VOBs.
Note: Both programs mentioned have options for you to keep current chapters or no chapters.

...and to use the next / previous buttons you need to create a chapter marker right at the end of each clip.
Next takes you then to the end which is so shortyou don't notice (hopefully)
Previous may have to pressed a couple of times.

I ripped them with Smartripper in movie mode, so each chapter is a VOB. I did this so I wouldn't end up with pieces of the movies I'm not keeping.
If I knew a way to combine multiple VOB chapters into one VOB with one chapter, I'd have one VOB per movie and could get by without menus and authoring.
Thanks for the authoring tips - maybe it's time to spend some $$ and make discs with menus on 'em.

each chapter is a vob
Well its probably better to start again and rip each film to a VobSet
Afterwards to get rid of the uneccessary chapters you could demux with VobEdit and remux using IfoEdits Author mode.
If you want a chapter at the end as I suggested above you could watch the vob with Mplayer Classic anmd take a note of the time right near the end, multiply by 25 (frames) for PAL and enter that into a Celltimes.txt which you can then add in IfoEdit to re-author your compilation.
