View Full Version : Removing Extras

I recently saw a backup someone had made where they had removed certain extras, some trailers foreign sound tracks etc from the disc.

These extras still appeared on the menu but where not selectable. Going from one button to another the cursor just skipped these buttons and moved onto the next. This was the case in the audio setup menu as well.

I tend to use DVD Shrink for my backups, usually just removing anything apart from the main movie. So I can get away with either no compression or very minimum compression. However it would be nice on some occasions to remove these extras but keep the menu so you still have things like the scene selection.

I have seen (but not used) both DVD Stripper and Menu Edit. One thing I cant understand is that DVD Stripper removes titles which I assume disables them in the menu (???). But it doesn't remove additional audio tracks from a title (does it ???) so how would that be disabled in the audio setup menu ?

They may have used Clone DVD for the backup, does this disable specific video and audio titles from the menu and remove them from the disc completely ?

And before you say why dont you just ask them, I have no means of getting in contact with them else that would have been my first port of call.

The free version of MenuEdit can delete any menu buttons (the registered version can do more advanced stuff like edit/create buttons). And stripping them is easy with IFOedit, just check out 2Cool's cheat sheets in the IFO/VOB editing forum.

I haven't used DVDStripper, but I would be pretty impressed if it could disable associated menu selections of stripped material.

I've only tried a few one-clicks (DVD Shrink (the best IMO), cloneDVD, Instantcopy, and Nero Recode) and as far as I know none of them can edit menus in any way other than compressing them.

Most likely the (re)author stripped the extras/audio with IFOEdit/DVDStripper and then used MenuEdit to delete the menu buttons.

Cheers for the reply wmansir.

I have just had a play with menu edit and managed to disable the a single menu item just as it appeared on the other disc. So that's that bit sorted.

I guess what I now need to do is :-

1) Remove all the unwanted extras with DVDStripper.
2) Use DVD Shrink to remove the extra audio and transcode the video.
3) Use Menu Edit to remove the now redundant buttons.

I'll give that a try, need to buy DVDStripper first though!

the stripping could have been done with anything but menuedit will have more than likely been used to modify the buttons

DVDStripper does allow you to remove menu's very easily just by clicking Remove but doesn't modify the buttons yet. It also doesn't strip audio/subs but who knows maybe in the near future it will do both for you aswell as modify buttons ;)

from the feedback I've seen some people get great results using the Mini 3 :D, which is MenuEdit, DVDShrink and DVDStripper

Mike. it's nice to hear you are thinking about getting DVDStripper :)

this is the method most use with the Mini 3 which is a little different

1) Remove all the unwanted menu/extras with DVDStripper
2) While in DVDstripper, use Menu Edit to remove the now redundant buttons much faster than normal
3) Use DVD Shrink to remove the extra audio and transcode the video.

I gave it a try last night, followed your directions MackemX and it worked like charm.

Used DVDStripper to remove ALL of the extras, then removed the extras button with MenuEdit and finally transcoded it all with DVDShrink.

Excellent!
