Help with avisynth script please

Ok, I have these AVI files, that when I play them on the TV thru my computer on on the computer screen, they have black bars on the top and bottom when played. I'm using CCE and AVISynth to convert them to MPEG2 for DVD burning. I have a 4:3 TV and gave a copy to a friend who has a 16:9 TV. He was all upset because it was 4:3 that I converted to in CCE. I did this following the CCE tutorial in Doom9 as it's all I had to work with. Looked good to me but do not want to loose anything if I eventually get a 16:9 TV as I'll see bars either way with the 4:3. Can someone assist me in knowing what I need to set my AVISynth script to for CCE, and if this AVI file is actually 16:9,

640x360 is 16:9. Avi's have a 1:1 pixel aspect ratio, so you just divide the width by the height. 640/360 = 1.777, and 16/9 = 1.777.

You just need to resize the avi to 720x480 (or 720x576 for PAL) in your AviSynth script, make sure there's nothing adding black borders (no Crop or AddBorders commands) and encode it.

You will of course need to author the DVD (or at least this title) as a 16:9 anamorphic.

Thanks Kedirekin. That's kind of what I figured after reading some more articles. It just didn't look right on the 16:9 screen, however it could be due to my buddies 16:9 rear projection screen. It's brand new, however doesn't seem to have the best brightness and the video doesn't seem that stable.

By the way, is it a safe assumption that when choosing 16:9 in Scenarist that it's anamorphic?

If I'm not mistaken, 16:9 in Scenarist is synonomous with anamorphic.

The other denominations would be full screen and letterbox, and Scenarist makes no distinctions for these - to it, they're both 4:3.
