Dear all,
I am experiencing a weird problem... I always make an image of my VIDEO_TS folder and then burn the .img with dvd decrypter. (my burner is PLEXTOR 708A)
Ok let's go....
How It Was
I used to open dvd decrypter.... insert a PHILIPS DVD+R 4X, and dvd decrypter info was that the disc is 6x (which is correct... philips DVD+R can be burned up to 8x). The when i clicked on BURN the disc began at 6x and continued at 8x and VOILA my disc was burned in about 5-6 minutes.
How It Is
Now, i re-installed windows (cause of a big crash) and i open dvd decrypter.... insert a PHILIPS DVD+R 4X, and dvd decrypter info is that the disc is 6x, but when i press burn the disc begins (and ends) at 4x... No more 6x or 8x.
Anybody can help me?????
Thank you in advance and sorry for my poor english (as i am from Greece)

Have you tested it in other programs?
Other than drivers, nothing should be limiting your speed. DVD Decrypter certainly doesnt.

thanks for the quick reply...
I'll check with nero too, when i get back home.
But the strange thing is that i didn't make something different in my pc or/and media.... and has nothing to do with drivers cause plextor don't need any drivers to be identified by windows....
Thank anyway.... (i'm sure it's not dvddecrypter problem, cause i am using it for a while now with success, i was just wondering if i need to check something....)

Try to install ASPI.
Maybe that will solve your problem.

I've seen a few posts stating the burning (and ripping) speeds are limited if DMA is disabled. Not sure if that's the problem here, but it's worth checking.

Update
I re-installed ASPI
DMA is on....
I burned several Philips DVD+R with Nero @ 8x
but dvd decrypter at "MAX" writes @ 4x
what is wrong in this picture.... it can't be dvd decrypter, because 5 days ago i was writing @ 8x with it....

Well what have you changed during that time?!
There must be something?!

cdrecord-prodvd does the same.... it sets the speed to 4x when selecting 8x (however, dvd decrypter works for me).
The firmware of that drive seems to be a mystery...

Do u mean u're writing with nero at 8x on a 4x media? Hmmm I haven't been able to do that. Didn't know I could select the writespeed in Nero...?
When I burn with dvd-decryptor I just set the speed at 8x. It starts burning at 6x, then switches to 8x (using Verbatim 4x media).
Maybe if you choose MAX, it choose the max. burning speed of the media, which is 4x...?

ok.... first of all thank you all for your help and replies....
I found the solution. The difference from before is that now:
1) Dvd decrypter is writing in 8x only if i choose writing speed 8x. If i choose MAX then i'm limited to 4x. This wasn't happening before but i'm glad it's solved...... i guess i'll have to manually set the speed.
2) Plextor is writing 4x if the image size is >4GB. If the image is bigger than 4GB then it'll write @ 8x. (i'm not sure if this was same before...but i guess it was)
Thank you all for your help and time!! :)
