I searched the forums,,, just need a little help.
I take about 5 chapters from 5 different movies using smartripper. I use vobedit (join clips )and ifo edit as described in the guides. I end up with about x4 1 gig .vob files. I burn it to a DVD-r and it playes fine except in between the .vob files, my stand alone pauses for about 2 seconds. Can I create x1 4 gig .vob file, and would that take care of the problem ????

Try to use DVDShrink for this, in reauthor mode. It should work perfectly. Follow this guide:
http://www.dvdshrink.info/re-author-v3beta5-advanced.php
In youe case you have done a lot of work with poor results...
Using DVDShrink you should do the same in simple way.

And just to help you understand what is happening - the problem has nothing to do with file sizes, all DVDs are broken up arbitrarily into 1GB chunks, but these appear as one large stream of data to a standalone. The problem is joining seperately encoded video causes a jump in the reference time code embedded in the system stream and the DTS/PTS time codes in each elementary stream. This makes the player pause while it resynchronizes everything to the new values.
Reauthoring with DVDShrink, or other properly written programs, will replace the time codes with new values that don't jump around at the splice points.
